Nissan sells headquarters to Minth Group from China
Nissan Motor decided to sell its global headquarters in Yokohama for 97,000 million yen (about 2.05 billion baht) to a group backed by Minth Group, a Hong Kong-listed auto parts company. The deal was done through a special purchasing company managed by KKR's real estate unit, KJR Management.
Nissan shares rose 3.9 percent in Tokyo morning trading, but have fallen more than 27 percent since the beginning of the year, while the company is facing its heaviest financial crisis in more than 20 years, with major cost-cutting plans, layoffs and plant closures, with an operating loss of 275,000 billion yen (5.8 billion baht) in the fiscal year ending March 2026.
This headquarters sale deal is a 20-year lease-return agreement. Minth Group is the main investor. Nissan will record a net profit of around ¥74 billion ($1.56 billion) and confirm that its operations and personnel at the headquarters will not affect it.
According to Nissan, the sales revenue will be used to maintain key investments and modernize internal systems. "This is disciplined capital management, unlocking value from non-core assets to support transitions during challenging times."
Nissan Headquarters Originally located in Ginza, Tokyo, before moving to Mayokohama in 2009, CEO Ivan Espinosa now announces plans to cut 20,000 employees and reduce the number of factories worldwide from 17 to 10, after the company faced a downturn in profits, debt surges and weak sales in the U.S.-China.
