We loved having Kristen Maxwell join us this week to talk about her acting journey and her recent role in His & Hers! New episode drops tomorrow! 🎙️ #hisandhers #netflix #tessathompson #prettylittleliars #plloriginalsin
It's always a bit wild to reflect on my acting journey, and getting to chat about it on The Table Read Podcast was such a treat! When we talked about landing my role in 'His & Hers,' it brought back so many memories of the grind, the excitement, and the sheer dedication it takes to be an actress. Every role, big or small, feels like a new adventure, and 'His & Hers' was definitely an unforgettable one. The energy on set, the camaraderie with the cast and crew—it’s moments like those that remind you why you push through all the tough auditions and rejections. But honestly, one of the most talked-about moments from the podcast, and something that always makes me smile, is when we delved into my experience meeting Tessa Thompson. For years, people have told me, 'You look like her!' I'd always just kind of shrugged it off, thinking, 'I don't feel like I look that much like her.' You know that classic Spider-Man meme where two Spider-Men are pointing at each other? It's kind of how I felt about the whole resemblance thing. I could see it in certain photos, maybe, but in real life? I wasn't so sure. Then, when I finally met her in person, it was a completely different story. It wasn't just about the physical resemblance anymore. She was just so sweet and nice. Seriously, she went out of her way to make sure we had a sit-down meeting before filming even started, which I thought was really nice because, truthfully, she did not have to do that. It speaks volumes about her character. She was incredibly kind, really sweet, and absolutely beautiful. You hear all these cautionary tales, 'Don't meet your heroes,' because often, the reality can be a letdown. Some of them are not nice people, or they don't live up to the image you've built in your mind. But she was, she was genuinely wonderful. And after meeting her, I can definitely see the resemblance more that I've seen her in person. It wasn't just about how she looked, but her warmth and presence. It really put things into perspective. For any aspiring actress out there, my advice is to embrace every part of your journey, even the unexpected comparisons! Be open to meeting people you admire, but always remember that true character shines through regardless of fame. Keep honing your craft, stay persistent, and genuinely connect with the stories you get to tell. It’s a challenging path, but when you get to experience moments like these, it makes every single effort worth it. And who knows, you might just find your hero is even better in real life!
