Say No to AI staging
Why I won’t use AI to stage my furniture work. #noai
In recent years, AI staging has gained popularity as a quick and cost-effective method to showcase furniture pieces in virtual environments. However, from my personal experience working directly with handcrafted furniture, I have found that AI staging often lacks the nuanced understanding and emotional connection that physical staging brings. While AI can generate appealing images, it sometimes fails to capture the textures, lighting, and spatial relationships that real staging emphasizes. For those of us dedicated to the craft, the process of setting a scene is as important as the furniture itself. It allows us to present our work in a way that reflects its true character and the story behind each piece. Relying on AI-generated staging can remove the personality and authenticity that customers value when choosing handcrafted furniture. Additionally, AI staging may inadvertently promote unrealistic expectations by presenting furniture in overly idealized environments. This disconnect can lead to dissatisfaction when the actual pieces arrive and are set in customers’ homes. By personally staging furniture, I can ensure that the presentation is honest and aligns with real-world use. Choosing not to use AI staging also supports traditional artisanship and encourages more personal interaction between makers and buyers. It opens up opportunities to explain design details and craftsmanship through physical demonstration or personalized photography. Ultimately, while AI staging tools might serve convenience, preserving the human touch in furniture presentation creates a deeper appreciation and trust in the work. For creators passionate about their craft, saying no to AI staging is about maintaining integrity and connecting with an audience on a genuine level.
