Truly unruly
My hair can get a bit wild sometimes. #wildhair #ignoremyhair #menshair
My long, curly, brown hair often feels like it has a life of its own. One minute it's behaving, the next it's a truly unruly, messy hairstyle! I know many of you out there with similar hair types can relate. It’s not always about trying to achieve perfectly sleek strands; sometimes it’s about understanding and working with what you’ve got. I remember countless mornings battling the frizz, trying to coax my wild brown curls into some semblance of order before heading out. It felt like a losing battle, and I'd often just give up, throwing it up into a messy bun or ponytail. But over time, I've picked up a few tricks that have helped me embrace my hair's natural texture rather than constantly fight it. So, what makes brown hair unruly? For me, it’s a combination of things. Humidity is a big culprit – it can turn my neat curls into a frizzy halo in minutes. Then there's the product dilemma: using the wrong type or too much can weigh it down or make it even wilder. And sometimes, it just comes down to genetics; some hair is simply predisposed to being more rebellious! Here are some of my personal tips for managing and even celebrating unruly brown hair: 1. Hydration is Key: For my brown hair, deep conditioning treatments once a week have been a game-changer. I use a rich, moisturizing mask and leave it on for 20-30 minutes. This really helps to tame the wildness and add much-needed moisture, which is essential for curly hair. 2. Gentle Drying Techniques: I’ve learned to ditch the rough towel drying. Now, I gently squeeze out excess water with a microfibre towel or an old cotton t-shirt. This significantly reduces frizz and helps define my curls, preventing that truly unruly look right from the start. 3. The Power of Leave-in Products: A good leave-in conditioner or curl cream is my best friend. I apply it when my hair is still damp, scrunching it in to encourage curl formation and lock in moisture. For those days I want a more defined messy hairstyle, a light gel or mousse works wonders too. 4. Embrace the Messy Style: Instead of constantly fighting the unruly nature, sometimes it's better to embrace it. I’ve found that braids, messy buns, or even a half-up style can look really chic and work with the natural texture of my long, curly brown hair. These styles actually celebrate the "wild" aspect, making it look intentional and stylish. 5. Sleep Protection: To minimize morning frizz and tangles, I started sleeping on a silk pillowcase. It’s amazing how much difference it makes in making my hair a little less unruly when I wake up. 6. Regular Trims: Even if you're growing your hair long, regular trims are important. They help get rid of split ends that can contribute to a messy, unkempt look and make your hair appear even more unruly. Dealing with unruly brown hair is definitely a journey, not a destination. But with a bit of understanding, the right products, and a willingness to embrace its natural beauty, you can turn those wild curls into your signature style. It's about finding what works for your hair and loving it, even on its most unruly days!
