Everyone asks what we do for work. Almost nobody guesses right.
Most people assume we’re rich.
That we have a trust fund.
That social media is funding everything.
It’s not.
The truth is, our life just doesn’t cost as much as people think.
We work seasonally.
Short periods of work that fund months of travel.
Beet harvest.
Odd jobs.
Doing hair.
Nothing crazy.
We just decided what mattered more to us.
more stuff? or more time?
So we built our life around that.
We don’t make a lot of money.
We just don’t need to spend a lot.
And that changed everything.
Many people imagine that a travel-centric lifestyle must be supported by high income or frequent glamorous jobs. However, our experience shows that simplicity and intentional living are the keys. Seasonal work such as beet harvesting or installing solar panels on RVs provides bursts of income that fund extended periods of travel. These jobs may seem unconventional, but they are flexible and allow us to set our own schedules. For example, working during a beet harvest season may last only a few weeks but offers enough earnings to cover months of travel. Similarly, odd jobs like hairdressing give us additional income without tying us down to a regular full-time schedule. This income strategy depends on keeping expenses low and prioritizing experiences over possessions. By reducing unnecessary spending and living simply while traveling, we avoid the pressure of earning continuously. The freedom gained by this approach outweighs pursuing high-paying careers we don’t enjoy. This lifestyle also strengthens resilience and adaptability, as we learn to embrace different roles and environments. Choosing what matters — time and freedom instead of material accumulation — has transformed our lives. Anyone considering a similar path should focus on how to reduce fixed costs, find flexible income opportunities, and adopt a minimalist mindset. It’s not about having much money but about aligning your life choices with your values and courageously following them.
