Gil Scott-Heron (1949-2011) and Brian Jackson (1952) met at Lincoln University in 1969. They were a socio-political spoken word musical partnership, blending jazz, soul, and funk. They produced critically acclaimed albums like Winter in America (1974) and Pieces of a Man (1971), featuring iconic tracks like "The Bottle" and "We Almost Lost Detroit.”
Jackson provided the musical melodies, keys, and arrangements, while Scott-Heron focused on lyrics and spoken-word poetry.
