Ida B. Wells 👑🌹🕊️

Ida B. Wells (1862-1931) was born enslaved in Mississippi & although slavery was abolished shortly after she was born, the party of Lincoln left the South without finishing the job, leaving Ida & other freed people at mercy of brutal former slavers who re-enslaved them as sharecroppers as well as enforcing Jim Crow laws & engaging in lynching, violence, and other forms of intimidation.

Ida B. Wells witnessed lynching as a child. She grew up to become a journalist, anti-lynching crusader and civil rights activist and also a co-founder of the NAACP. She was an influential writer and public speaker who played a crucial role in raising awareness about racial violence and discrimination, while challenging the oppressive systems of her time.

Through it all she was the mother of four beautiful children. This is what makes Women’s History month special. There hasn’t been a man yet who achieved success while raising children. 💪🏽
