This often led to a slower, more thoughtful progression of relationships, which some might say fostered deeper connections. In-person social events were the main venues for meeting people, whether it was parties, social clubs, or mutual friends’ gatherings. Unlike today’s swipe culture, each encounter demanded more courage and presence. The idea of ‘‘making the first move’’ was often loaded with assumptions about gender roles, so many women quietly navigated the tension between expressing interest and waiting for signals. From a personal perspective, the patience required really shaped how we valued each interaction. There was more anticipation building up to a phone call or meeting, which made these moments feel significant. Although that era lacked the convenience of instant messaging, it encouraged genuine effort and emotional investment—an experience I’ve cherished looking back on, especially when contrasted with the fast-paced dating scene of today.
