Walking along the famous Malecón in Guayaquil was nothing short of magical. This waterfront promenade not only offers stunning views of the Guayas River but is also alive with local vendors, street performers, and the vibrant pulse of the city. It’s the perfect place to soak in the atmosphere and feel connected to Ecuador’s urban life.
Food lovers will definitely want to try encebollado, a traditional Ecuadorian fish soup that became an instant favorite of mine. It’s hearty, flavorful, and is considered a must-try dish—indeed, it completely changed my perspective on seafood soups. Enjoying this dish at a local spot on the Malecón added to its authenticity.
Shopping in Guayaquil was another fun part of the day. I browsed through local markets and even visited some well-known stores like Tommy Hilfiger and L'Occitane at the San Marino Shopping. It was interesting to see the blend of international and local brands coexisting here.
Evening dining was a treat with Dortones, where we ended the day with a hearty meal. This balanced perfectly with the day’s activities and left me feeling fulfilled and ready for the adventures ahead.
Overall, my first day gave me a well-rounded glimpse into Ecuador’s culture, cuisine, and people. For anyone planning a visit, I highly recommend focusing on the Malecón area for a blend of scenic views, great food, and social vibrancy.
