I have a rule I've been trying to live by: the moment I feel like I'm overextending myself for a person or an organization that's treating me like an option...I'm already halfway out the door. 😒

I'm not asking anybody to roll out a red carpet. But if a church says they need volunteers, why does it take weeks to call somebody back? Y'all praying for laborers while leaving the applications sitting in the digital wilderness. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Then there's baptism. You answer the altar call. You talk to the ministry team. They tell you someone will contact you. Nobody does. So you go to the website, fill out every form, hit submit, and it says, "Someone will be in touch soon." Soon must be measured in biblical generations because...crickets. 😂

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a powerful sermon. I love solid biblical teaching that convicts me, challenges me, and helps me grow. But sometimes it feels like churches put more energy into clips, views, and social media engagement than following up with people who are actually trying to take their next step with Christ.

Jesus didn't tell His disciples, "Go into all the world and wait three to five business weeks." He said, "Go therefore and make disciples...baptizing them..." (Matthew 28:19). Baptism isn't just another church event. It's an act of obedience and a public declaration of faith.

If God places a desire in someone's heart to serve, disciple others, or get baptized, that should matter. That person isn't an interruption to ministry—they ARE the ministry.

I'm not angry. I'm just learning discernment. If I have to chase an opportunity to grow spiritually, maybe that's not where God is calling me to plant my roots. I want to be somewhere that values discipleship over popularity, purpose over platforms, and people over performance.

Because if God is opening doors for my purpose, I refuse to spend my time knocking on doors that nobody intends to answer. 💪🏾

7/24 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my personal experience in various church communities, I've noticed a growing disconnect between the enthusiasm individuals feel to serve or grow spiritually and the actual responsiveness of the institutions they approach. Many churches have embraced digital platforms, which is great for outreach, but sometimes this digital presence does not translate into effective pastoral care or engagement. For example, filling out a volunteer form or signing up for baptism should signal a prompt, personal follow-up. Instead, those forms can feel like they vanish into a void, which is deeply discouraging to seekers and committed members alike. This situation isn't unique to one denomination or region—it's a broader symptom of churches focusing heavily on metrics like views or likes, often at the expense of genuine relational ministry. People are increasingly discerning; they want to be part of communities that embody their values through action, not just words or online popularity. Baptism, in particular, is a profound public act of faith and obedience that should be treated with reverence and immediate pastoral support. Waiting weeks for a response can cause potential disciples to question their place in the community or even their commitment itself. A church that delays in these areas risks losing members not because of a lack of faith, but because of a failure to nurture it properly. If you’ve been frustrated by silence or delays in your spiritual journey, know you’re not alone. Many are seeking a church that prioritizes relationships and discipleship above platforms and popularity. It’s important to listen to these feelings and seek out communities that respond actively and lovingly. Ultimately, the mission is not about numbers or social media success but about making disciples who are nurtured, valued, and empowered to live out their faith fully.
