The Shiba Inu is a part of the 6 Native Japanese dog breeds and should be treated with more respect and dignity than many people realize. Sadly, people treat them as toys when, in reality, they come from a long lineage of resilient dogs. If it weren't for their size, they may be seen as more of a danger like their cousins (and look-alike) the Akita Inu is often deemed as.
Finnish Spitz are in the Spitz family, as their name suggests, meaning they too will have a learning curve for any owner and are highly intelligent.
The pomeranian is often seen as a cute floof ball 💞 I own a throwback pomerainian! (a pomeranian with more primitive genes) so I can only speak for them, but My Sofie has more energy and feist than I think many owners can handle. Even after a bout of lymes disease and arthritis that caused her to lose all mobility for months - at 11 years old, she still insists on a 3 mile walk AT LEAST!

For instance, I've noticed a lot of curiosity around terms like 'dogxim' or 'dog fox hybrid.' It's absolutely fascinating to think about, but it's important to remember that true dog-fox hybrids are incredibly rare and generally not viable as pets due to significant genetic differences. The 'dogxim' was a unique scientific discovery, not a common breed you'd find. What we do have are incredible purebreds that simply share that striking vulpine appearance! And if your heart leans towards the smaller, more delicate look of a fennec fox, fear not! While there isn't an exact canine replica, some breeds and mixes can certainly evoke that fennec vibe. Think about breeds with large, expressive ears and petite frames. Basenjis, for example, have an agile, alert look that's quite captivating, and some Chihuahua or Papillon mixes can surprise you with those wonderfully oversized, fennec-like ears. It truly highlights the amazing diversity within the dog world! Beyond the adorable Shiba Inu (often a small breed of 15-24lbs), the fluffy Pomeranian (especially those vibrant RED POMERANIAN types, even the larger throwback Pomeranians at 10-20lbs), and the spirited Finnish Spitz (a small to medium breed around 15-30lbs) that I mentioned, there are other breathtaking breeds to explore. The majestic Akita Inu, often considered a larger cousin to the Shiba, also carries that dignified, fox-like presence. Then there's the Alaskan Klee Kai, frequently called a 'miniature Husky,' which undeniably possesses a wild, foxy charm. Even the fluffy Samoyed, with its perpetual smile, can sometimes evoke the image of a snowy fox! Every single one of these 'fox dogs' is undeniably beautiful, but it's crucial to remember that they are sentient beings with specific requirements for training, exercise, and socialization. Many Spitz-type breeds, like the Shiba Inu and Finnish Spitz, are highly intelligent but can also be independent and quite vocal – traits I've definitely experienced with my own high-energy dog! Before you bring one home, it's vital to dive deep into researching their unique temperaments, potential health considerations, and how well they'll fit into your lifestyle. A dog, whether they resemble a fox or not, is a lifelong companion who deserves all our dedication and love.
