There’s so much evil and despair, and while I’m using my voice to speak against it, I’m also making room for joy in my life.

It’s a form of resistance.

There’s so much hope in the joy we find. Any there’s even more in the joy that we share.

I personally find that intentionally making room for joy in my daily life fuels resilience and nurtures hope. Whether it's through creative practices such as hand lettering, art, or simply connecting with others who share similar values, joy becomes a source of strength. For me, creating art is not just about aesthetics; it's a form of expression that confronts despair and invites positivity. When I engage in hand lettering, I focus on uplifting messages that encourage not just myself but also my community. Sharing that joy amplifies its power, creating ripples of hope. Moreover, joy as resistance aligns with activism. Taking time to cherish beauty and happiness doesn’t mean ignoring injustice; rather, it sustains the motivation to continue advocating for change, such as movements to abolish harmful policies and systems. The act of seeking joy becomes intertwined with the act of speaking out and standing firm against cruelty. In my experience, cultivating joy is a daily practice. It might be a moment spent appreciating a sunrise, a heartfelt conversation, or the simple act of creating something beautiful. These small acts collectively build a foundation of hope that’s vital for enduring hardship. Embracing joy isn’t about denying reality—it’s about empowering yourself and others to keep going, to heal, and to inspire transformation.
