What do you see?
When I was a little girl, I lived with my grandparents, and when I lived there, I noticed that there was a panel of wood in the hallway that, to me at the time, looked like a bear. I would pass by this wood panel my entire life and I would always notice the bear staring back at me. After my grandparents passed away, as we were packing the house up and deciding what lifetime of memories should stay or go, I was reminded of the bear. See, the house has been sold to a developer who was turning the land the house sat upon into a pond. Everything was getting torn down. In the developers defense, the house, built in 1965, had a lot of problems, mainly with the foundation, that would cost a good amount of money to fix. So, even though I was sad to see the house go, I understood the reasoning. But, back to my Bear, as everyone was packing up boxes and deciding who would take what out of the furniture, I asked if I could take a piece of the wall. Everyone thought I was crazy. Why would you want decades old wood paneling?! And I said it’s not the paneling that I want! It’s the bear! I can’t remember if it was my uncle or my mom that was like “What the heck are you talking about? What Bear?!” But either way I was surprised they had no clue what I was talking about. So, that’s when I told them about the bear on the wall. Now understand, all of my aunts and my uncle have grown up in this house. I think the oldest was five maybe six when they had moved in and NONE of them had ever seen the bear! I know that it was more or less at my eye level from when I was a child but how could all of these people after all of the time we had lived there never seen my bear?? My mom thought I was crazy, so I took them to the spot in the hallway where my bear was and that is when I took this picture. Everyone was absolutely flabbergasted. Not a single one of them had ever seen this before and as I stood there, in my late 20’s, explaining that I have seen this my entire life blew us all away. Anyway, just a little piece of my past that I did end up taking as a small way to remember the place I grew up. ❤️
