✨Bedazzle it Pt.3 {Re-Upload}
I made these hats back in 2024! The amount of compliments I got whenever I rocked them reassured the love I have for DIY and making something my own. I was totally inspired by the designer that had went viral at the time for his custom MLB hats (if I can find his name, I’ll be sure to tag it in the comments)
Tell me what do you think?
Would you bedazzle your own hats or purchase it for someone to customize for you?
Hey everyone! Following up on my last post about my bedazzled hats, I've had so many of you ask about how I actually make them sparkle. You know how much I love taking something simple and making it completely my own, and these bedazzled baseball caps are definitely a favorite project from my 'Bedazzle it Series'. If you're wondering 'how to bedazzle a baseball cap' yourself, or just looking for some inspiration to create your own unique bedazzled hat, you're in the right place! It's truly a fun and rewarding DIY, and once you get the hang of it, you’ll want to bedazzle everything! Here’s a little guide based on my own experience to help you get started on your very own dazzling creation. What You'll Need: A Plain Baseball Cap: Choose a color that will make your gems pop! I usually go for black or white, but a vibrant color can be fun too. Rhinestones/Gems: This is where the magic happens! You can get flat-back rhinestones in various sizes, colors, and cuts. Crystal AB (aurora borealis) is my absolute favorite for that extra sparkle, but clear, colored, or even iridescent ones look amazing. Strong Fabric Glue: E6000 is a popular choice, but make sure it dries clear and is suitable for fabric. Always test a tiny bit on an inconspicuous spot first. Rhinestone Picker Tool or Wax Pencil: This makes picking up and placing tiny rhinestones so much easier. Trust me, your fingers will thank you! Tweezers: Handy for repositioning. Paper Towels/Old Cloth: For wiping excess glue. A Design Idea: Sketch it out first or find inspiration online! My Step-by-Step Bedazzling Process: Plan Your Design: Before you even touch the glue, lay out your rhinestones on the hat to visualize your pattern. Do you want full coverage, a logo outline, or perhaps a gradient effect? For my original bedazzled hat creations, I loved doing intricate patterns around the brim and the front panel. This is where your creativity truly shines! Remember, practice makes perfect, so don't be afraid to experiment. Clean Your Cap: Make sure your cap is clean and dry. Any dust or lint can affect glue adhesion. Start Gluing (Small Sections!): This is crucial. Don't apply glue to a large area all at once, as it might dry before you can place all your gems. Work in small sections, applying a small dot of glue for each rhinestone, or a thin line for a row. Place Your Rhinestones: Use your picker tool or wax pencil to carefully pick up each rhinestone and place it firmly onto the glue. If you accidentally get glue on the top of a rhinestone, let it dry a bit, then gently try to peel it off or use a toothpick. Let It Dry Completely: This is probably the hardest part – patience! Follow the glue's instructions for drying time. I usually let mine cure for at least 24-48 hours. Don't rush it, especially if you plan on wearing it often! Tips for a Long-Lasting Sparkle: Quality Materials Matter: Investing in good quality rhinestones and glue will make a huge difference in the final look and durability of your bedazzled hat. Less is More with Glue: Too much glue can seep out and look messy. Just a tiny dot is usually enough. Care for Your Creation: Hand wash gently with cold water if absolutely necessary, and always air dry. Avoid machine washing or harsh scrubbing. Making these bedazzled hats has brought me so much joy and so many compliments, just like I mentioned in my initial post from the 'Bedazzle it Series Part 3' re-upload. It’s amazing what a little sparkle can do for an outfit and your confidence! So, what do you think? Are you ready to try making your own bedazzled cap, or would you prefer to find someone to customize one for you? Either way, embrace the sparkle!
