Roots of Darkness by Demi Winters
“Back then, she’d been a girl filled with dreams. Now she was a woman who’d seen too much.“
As much as I am enjoying The Ashen series, by Demi Winters, I knew I absolutely HAD to read the novella. Hekla is one of my favorite characters in the series so I was thrilled to get a book from her perspective. She is such a powerful character and I love that she doesn’t use the things she’s been through to excuse becoming a hateful, bitter person. Instead, she uses them to make hers of stronger and becomes the type of person who would have protected her when she was younger. I’m not saying she does have justifiable rage but anyone who had experienced her past would. I enjoyed all the new characters that were introduced as well as getting more time with the Bloodaxe Crew. And the storyline was so full of action and surprises. I was hooked from the beginning! And, it has a talking squirrel! What’s not to love about a taking squirrel??
