Stomping out monsters is easier than I thought 😂

I recently had the chance to dive into the world of Hollowbody, and as someone who generally enjoys the tense, resource-scarce experience of survival horror games, I came away with some interesting thoughts on its gameplay. My first impression, I have to admit, was that tackling the monsters felt a lot easier than I anticipated for a game in this genre. From the moment I started playing, the controls felt responsive, and moving my character through the eerie environments was straightforward. Combat, which is often a significant source of tension in survival horror, initially seemed quite forgiving. Enemies, while visually unsettling, often had predictable attack patterns. This allowed me to quickly learn their tells and dispatch them without too much trouble, even with basic weapons. I didn't find myself constantly low on ammo or health packs, which is usually a hallmark of the survival horror experience designed to keep you on edge. Instead, resources felt adequately distributed, allowing for a somewhat smoother progression than I'm used to. Now, this isn't to say the game lacks atmosphere or intriguing design. The environments are genuinely creepy, and the visual style definitely leans into that classic sci-fi horror vibe. However, when it comes to the 'survival' aspect, particularly the challenge of managing limited resources or overcoming truly formidable foes, Hollowbody felt more like an action-adventure game with horror elements rather than pure survival horror. I wasn't often forced to make tough decisions about whether to fight or flee, or which precious item to use. The puzzles I encountered were generally intuitive, not requiring extensive backtracking or mind-bending logic, which can sometimes diminish the sense of being trapped and desperate. So, is Hollowbody a good addition to the survival horror genre? That's where it gets interesting. If you define survival horror by its dark themes, unsettling atmosphere, and narrative depth, then absolutely, it has a lot to offer. The story seems compelling, and the world-building is solid. But if your definition hinges on punishing difficulty, scarce resources, and a constant feeling of vulnerability, then you might find the gameplay loop of Hollowbody a bit less intense than anticipated. For me, it was an enjoyable experience, just perhaps not the white-knuckle, heart-pounding survival horror I mentally prepared for. It's a game that you can certainly get through without too much frustration, which might be a relief for some players, but might leave seasoned genre veterans wanting a bit more of a challenge. I’m curious to see how others felt about the difficulty balance and whether it truly hits that survival horror sweet spot for them.
