Pumba the kunekune
My sweetest of boys Pumba #kunekune #pig #exoticfarm #tinyjunglefarms
Oh, where do I even begin with Pumba? He's not just any pig; he's the heart of our tiny jungle farm, and truly my sweetest boy! When people hear 'pig,' they often think of typical farm animals, but Pumba, being a Kunekune, is in a league of his own. These pigs are simply fantastic as pets, and Pumba exemplifies everything wonderful about the breed. One of the first things people notice about Pumba are his charming wattles! For those unfamiliar, wattles are those cute, fleshy tassels hanging from either side of their lower jaw. They're a distinctive trait of the Kunekune breed, and while their exact purpose isn't fully known, they definitely add to their unique appeal. Pumba's wattles just sway when he trots around, making him even more endearing. Living on our exotic farm, Pumba gets to enjoy life to the fullest. Kunekunes are known for being excellent grazers, which is perfect for maintaining our fields. Unlike some other pig breeds that can be destructive, Pumba gently 'mows' our pastures, munching on grass and foraging for roots – though I haven't seen him dig up too many fungi yet! Their diet primarily consists of grass, supplemented with fruits, vegetables, and specialized pig feed, making them relatively easy keepers if you have the space. What truly sets Kunekunes apart, and why they make such incredible pets, is their remarkably gentle and placid temperament. Pumba is incredibly friendly and loves human interaction. He'll often come up for a good scratch behind the ears or a belly rub, grunting contentedly. It’s hard to have a bad day when you’re greeted by his happy little snorts! They're often described as the 'friendliest' pig breed, and I can certainly attest to that. My spouse and I spend so much time just observing his antics. Bringing Pumba into our lives has been such a joy. He's not just livestock; he's a cherished member of our family. If you're considering a unique pet for your farm or large property, a Kunekune pig with wattles, like my Pumba, could be the perfect addition. They're intelligent, affectionate, and relatively low-maintenance if their basic needs for grazing and shelter are met. It’s been an incredible experience learning about and living with these wonderful creatures!
