The final part of making a magnet bar is here! The final reveal is at the end!
We’re so excited about how it turned out and can’t wait to take it to future markets and events!
Completing the magnet bar was truly a labor of love that required patience and attention to detail. One important tip I learned from this project is the value of letting stain fully cure before moving on to painting or sealing—it really affects the longevity and appearance of the wood. Sanding each piece carefully to prepare for painting took much more time than expected, especially since I didn't have access to a paint sprayer and had to apply multiple coats by hand. Despite the extra work, the process was rewarding as I saw the transformation progress piece by piece. Using three coats of paint and three coats of polyurethane top coat created a smooth, durable finish that should hold up well against wear and tear, particularly important for a functional item like a working countertop that will see lots of use. For the countertop, we chose a lighter paint wash combined with multiple protective coats to maintain a balance between aesthetics and durability. An unexpected but satisfying part of the project was repurposing leftover plywood and small lumber pieces to craft structural supports and shelving to hold our printer and ensure the bar’s stability during events. Lastly, custom branding with a personalized sign added a professional touch that ties the entire piece together while promoting our Tiny Tiles Magnet Co. brand. Taking a handmade project to market-ready status requires dedication, but seeing the finished magnet bar ready for events is incredibly fulfilling. For anyone considering a similar DIY mobile bar or coffee cart, focus on prepping your surfaces meticulously, allow ample drying times between steps, and don’t rush the finishes. These extra efforts will pay off in durability and a beautiful end product that stands out at any vendor event or wedding market.
