My food was alright. I do think the potatoes were salted heavily.
I got the eggs Benedict with fried chicken and biscuits. I give credit to the biscuits being moist. My eggs got have been more on the runny side, but the hollandaise sauce was a bit off like a sour note to it.
My sister had chorizo with eggs and toast. Honestly, the chorizo was mushy? Like the texture a bit off putting.
The highlight for sure was the strawberries and cream drink. The whip cream combo with the strawberry sparkling soda was a surprisingly good combo. I would say the other sparkling drinks had some bitter taste to it with tartness, but if you’re a sparkling drink person then it should be fine.
If I were to go I would maybe get either the gumbo, shrimp poboy sandwich, or the fried chicken itself with side of fries. Those hash browns I didn’t like because it was too salty and overcooked.
... Read moreBuilding on my recent Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar review, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what you might really want to try, especially if you’re looking for those quintessential Southern flavors. While my Eggs Benedict with fried chicken had its ups and downs, those biscuits were undeniably moist – a huge win in my book! Good Southern biscuits should be flaky on the outside and tender within, and theirs definitely hit that mark. They’re perfect for soaking up gravy or just enjoying plain, making them a staple for any 'Tupelo breakfast' experience.
Speaking of their fried chicken, even though I had it as part of my Eggs Benedict, it got me thinking about their famous Chicken & Waffles, a highly searched item. Many folks rave about this dish at Tupelo Honey, and if the chicken in my Benedict is any indicator – crispy exterior, juicy interior – it’s probably a solid choice. Southern fried chicken should be well-seasoned and flavorful, and it’s a cornerstone of any 'southern cuisine' menu for a reason. If you’re a fan of savory and sweet combinations, their version of fried chicken and waffles is definitely on my list for a future visit.
Another dish that frequently comes up when talking about Southern food, and especially at places like Tupelo Honey, is Shrimp & Grits. While I didn't get to personally try it this time, it's a classic for a reason and a must-consider for anyone exploring a 'southern restaurant'. A great Shrimp & Grits features creamy, flavorful grits – never watery or bland – topped with plump, perfectly cooked shrimp, often nestled in a rich, savory sauce with a hint of spice, perhaps some bacon or sausage. It’s comforting and hearty, perfect for a satisfying breakfast or brunch.
My plate came with those visually appealing crispy potatoes you often see in brunch pictures. Unfortunately, they were a bit heavy on the salt for my taste, but some might genuinely love that extra crunch and seasoning! And that amazing strawberry sparkling drink, complete with its unique 'HOLD YOUR HORSES' graphic on the glass, was absolutely a highlight. It proves that sometimes the unexpected menu items and creative drinks can be the best discoveries.
If you're exploring a 'southern restaurant' like Tupelo Honey across its various locations (whether you're looking for 'tupelo honey dallas brunch review' or 'tupelo honey southern kitchen & bar charlotte'), I've learned it’s often about knowing what to order. Based on my experience, their specialty drinks are a must-try. For food, while I had mixed feelings about some items, the potential in their fried chicken and biscuits is strong. Next time, I'm definitely eyeing their gumbo or a shrimp po'boy – both classic Southern comfort foods that could be real winners. Don’t be afraid to ask your server for recommendations, especially if you’re new to true Southern cooking. Happy eating, and I hope this helps you find your next favorite dish!
