From my understanding the linen was actually harder to get clean after use, and since they were washing it by hand, the cloth that they could replace at a lower cost was cotton sheets. They also found that they came clean better. As for the copper, they were finding those who drank from copper cups ingested more copper than they should. They also learned that high levels of copper could not be shed, once it was in your system, one had to be bled, a very slow process, to remove excesses.

Copper is ideal for keeping H2O safe to drink. Linen does help in healing the body.
