Golden hour in singapore: where to shoot + why it always looks so dreamy 🌞

we really think golden hour is one of those things that can make the simplest location feel like magic 🥺

you don’t always need a crazy backdrop or some super hidden spot. sometimes all you need is open sky, a bit of water, some trees catching the light and a place where your couple can just breathe and be with each other. that’s it. suddenly everything glows a little softer and prettier and kinder.

a lot of how golden hour turns out actually comes down to location. we always look for places that feel open instead of boxed in. waterfronts, long walkways, open fields, bridges, spots where the sun can actually reach you instead of disappearing behind blocks and buildings too early. the more open the place is, the more time you get with that soft warm light.

some of our favourite spots in singapore for this are marina barrage, punggol waterway, tanjong rhu, bishan-ang mo kio park and east coast park. these places work so well because they have breathing room. there’s space for the sky to show up, space for the light to wrap nicely around people, and enough openness for everything to feel airy and glowy in photos.

if we’re shooting by the water, we love how the light bounces back softly and gives everything that extra shimmer. if we’re shooting in a greener park, we love how the trees start glowing from behind and the whole place feels softer and more alive. it’s not always about the biggest sunset, sometimes it’s just about how the light falls.

timing also matters sooo much. in singapore, we usually like reaching about 45 minutes to 1 hour before sunset so we have time to walk the area, see where the light is landing and slowly ease into the shoot. the sweetest light usually comes in that last stretch before sunset, when everything starts looking warmer, softer and less harsh.

we feel like that’s why golden hour makes photos look so much better. skin tones feel warmer, shadows don’t hit as hard, highlights look softer and everything gets this dreamy glow that feels romantic without trying too hard. it makes people look more at ease, and somehow the whole image feels gentler.

our biggest tip is honestly to choose a location with space, go a little earlier than you think you need to, and don’t force too much. let the light do its thing. some of our favourite frames always happen when we slow down, stop overthinking and just pay attention to what the evening is already giving us ☁️✨

... Read moreAs someone who has spent countless evenings capturing golden hour moments in Singapore, I can wholeheartedly say that the magic truly happens when you embrace patience and the natural flow of light. Beyond just picking a popular location like Marina Barrage or Punggol Waterway, I’ve found that exploring less known paths within these areas can yield surprisingly beautiful results. For instance, taking a slight detour to quieter spots along the East Coast Park, away from the main crowd, lets the golden light filter through the palm trees more intimately, giving a distinct softness and warmth to the shots. One essential tip from personal experience is to always have a flexible mindset when shooting during golden hour. The light evolves literally minute by minute, and being ready to adjust your compositions or angles can make a big difference. Sometimes, the best photos come not during the peak sunset but during those subtle moments when sunlight peeks through foliage or reflects delicately on water surfaces. Also, consider incorporating simple elements like reflections in puddles or subtle shadows cast by nearby trees to add depth and interest. The beauty of golden hour photography in Singapore is that even ordinary locations can look extraordinary if you let the light work naturally. Lastly, remember that golden hour is not just a technical opportunity but a chance to create emotionally authentic images. Allow your subjects to relax and connect without rushing through the shoot. When people feel at ease under the soft warm light, their natural expressions and interactions are the most impactful, transforming your photos from just pretty pictures to heartfelt memories.

A bubble gun in a pre-wedding shoot can be really cute… if you don’t overthink it. Honestly, the mistake most people make is treating it like a prop. Holding it, posing with it, trying to make it look “cool.” That’s when it starts to feel a bit forced. The nicer photos happen when it just become
