What I learned to ignore

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

It’s strange realizing how much you can normalize when you’ve been living with it long enough.

The pain. The exhaustion. The weird little things your body does that you learn to work around instead of questioning. You adjust. You compensate. You mask it. You keep moving.

Until eventually, someone starts asking the right questions.

Lately, a few more pieces have been added to a puzzle I’ve been trying to understand for a very long time. There are still a lot of questions, more appointments ahead, and some things that need a much closer look.

Nothing has changed overnight.

Except now, I’m finally paying attention to everything I taught myself to ignore. 🖤

... Read moreLiving with an autoimmune condition often means adapting to challenges that aren't immediately visible to others. From personal experience, the hardest part is how easily you can normalize pain and fatigue—your body’s subtle signals start to feel like just part of life. I’ve learned that the immune system, which is meant to protect us, can sometimes turn against itself, creating a constant battle within. For me, it wasn’t until conversations with supportive healthcare providers that I began to truly listen to my body. Symptoms I once masked—like sudden exhaustion and unexplained aches—started to make more sense. This process hasn’t been quick or easy; it involves numerous appointments, tests, and moments of self-reflection. Still, the journey toward understanding has been empowering because it shifts the focus from merely coping to actively seeking answers. Supporting this journey, connecting with communities through hashtags like #MoreThanMeetsTheEye and #OneDayAtATime has reinforced that I'm not alone. Sharing stories and experiences about living behind the smile helps bring awareness to the complexities of autoimmune diseases. If you find yourself ignoring your body’s warning signs, remember that it’s okay to pause, reassess, and prioritize your health. Healing may not happen overnight, but paying attention to what we once ignored is a vital step forward.
