Fiancé’s friend went with them, so wanted to take a look.
This shop requires a fee of 50RM ~ around $15SGD honestly , it’s not even worth paying.
inflexible - ONLY 6 gowns means 6.. seems pretty strict..
The service and Quality of the dresses are not worth paying for… But there were quite a lot of good reviews… so idk isit i suay ? coz it’s like morning appt 🤣 benefit of doubt lah..
We made another appt for another shop nearby.. so we could feel the difference 😆 as he is someone who doesn’t complain much, was quite surprise that he agreed with me
might consider going with them coz of the affordable price range… but it’s rather far to commute.. its at austin area.. but the service is a little turn off 🙃

Read moreFrom my experience, one thing to keep in mind when visiting Root and Water Bridal is their strict limit of only six gowns available for try-on, which might feel restrictive if you're hoping to explore various styles. The RM50 fee (about $15 SGD) seemed a little steep given the limited choices and service quality. However, the sangjit and cheongsam options caught my eye—they're quite affordable and well-designed, which could suit brides prioritizing budget and traditional looks.
If you're considering Root and Water Bridal, I recommend scheduling multiple appointments nearby to compare service and selection before deciding. The boutique is located in the Austin area of JB, so commuting might be inconvenient if you’re traveling from Singapore. Also, the staff’s low-pressure approach is refreshing, especially if you don’t like hard selling.
Overall, my fiancé, who’s usually not fussy, agreed that another shop offered better value during our follow-up visit. It’s worth researching local bridal shops in Johor Bahru and even checking Singapore-based services like You&Me Photography and Bridal, which offer more comprehensive wedding planning options.
Exploring wedding gown rental in JB can be a mixed bag; reading multiple reviews and asking for in-person try-ons really helps find the right fit and service. If budget is your top consideration, Root and Water’s range might appeal, but for more variety and personalized service, considering other bridal boutiques is advisable.
I’m with you on this. I don’t understand the many try-on charges but it is commonplace in JB apparently.
I also read all good reviews about Root and Water but they were pretty hands-off during my fitting like, they don’t even fluff my dress and I had to get my fiancé to help. This also makes me wonder why there is a trying fee, I guess for tying your dress at the back.
The only reason to go to them is really their price point.
