It was genuinely tough to narrow down all the incredible moments, but if you're planning a trip and wondering what to see in Amsterdam or the best places to visit in the Netherlands, I’ve got you covered! My photos only tell half the story; here’s what made these spots truly unforgettable. When it comes to Amsterdam, the iconic canals are always a highlight. Drifting along the waterways, you get an unparalleled view of the city's charming architecture. The intricate facades of the historic buildings, many dating back centuries, tell tales of a rich past. One of my favorite experiences was simply walking along these narrow, historic streets, especially in the Jordaan district, where every cobblestone path felt like a step back in time. You’ll stumble upon quaint shops and cozy cafes that are just perfect for soaking in the local atmosphere. The city is also home to some truly majestic landmarks. The grand, red-brick Amsterdam Centraal Station itself is a sight to behold, often your first impression as you arrive. Its distinctive towers and ornate architecture set the tone for the city's beauty. Near the bustling streets, you can't miss the imposing presence of structures like the Victoria Hotel, a prominent landmark that adds to Amsterdam's grand urban landscape. For those interested in history and art, exploring places like the Rijksmuseum, a magnificent historic building, offers hours of wonder. And of course, the city's numerous ornate churches, with their tall spires and intricate designs, are dotted along the canals, adding to the picturesque skyline. I remember seeing one particularly beautiful gothic-style church with intricate windows and spires near a street corner with tram tracks; it was stunning. But the Netherlands is so much more than just Amsterdam! If you're looking for the most beautiful towns in the Netherlands, I highly recommend venturing out. Utrecht, for instance, offers a similar canal experience but with a more relaxed vibe, and its Dom Tower (a grand clock tower!) provides incredible panoramic views. Delft is another gem, famous for its Delftware pottery and charming market square. For those iconic Dutch views, a visit to Kinderdijk to see the historic windmills is an absolute must – it feels like stepping into a postcard. While I visited in autumn, if you're there in spring, Keukenhof with its vibrant tulip fields is simply breathtaking and one of the top tourist attractions Netherlands has to offer. To make the most of your travel, embrace the local way of life. Renting a bicycle is an experience in itself, allowing you to navigate the city like a local. Trams are also incredibly convenient for getting around. And don't forget to try some local delights – a stroopwafel or some herring from a street vendor is a must-do! Whether you're exploring the bustling streets of Amsterdam or the serene countryside, the Netherlands offers an incredible array of places to go and things to see. Every corner reveals another beautiful view, making it an unforgettable destination for any traveler.
