PBS Special on Brain Health, Segment with TogetherForSharon®
Thank you PBS https://togetherforsharon.com/pbs-special-on-brain-health/
My wife, Grether, and I recently had the honor of being interviewed for an upcoming special television program on health and the brain. During the interview, we shared our journey as caregivers, my mother Sharon’s courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, and the advocacy work that continues to drive us today.
It was an incredibly meaningful experience. Reflecting on my mother’s journey brought me to tears — remembering the moments we cherish, and the ones Parkinson’s has taken from us far too soon.
We spoke about the power of support, unconditional love, and the ongoing fight for every individual and family facing Parkinson’s around the world. No family should have to endure what ours did. No one battling this disease should ever feel alone. That belief fuels us every single day.
In memory of my mother, Sharon, we will not stop until there is a cure. Until that day comes, we will continue fighting — 24/7 — for those living with Parkinson’s and for the families who stand beside them.
You are not alone. We miss you, Mom.
Stay tuned — we look forward to sharing the program once it is released.
Being a caregiver for someone with Parkinson’s disease is an emotional and challenging journey, deeply impacting every aspect of daily life. From my own experience, managing the ups and downs along with my loved one requires immense patience, compassion, and resilience. Parkinson’s not only affects physical movement but also takes an emotional toll on both the individual and their family. One important aspect I learned is the power of community and support networks. Joining groups or following advocacy organizations like TogetherForSharon® can provide invaluable comfort, practical advice, and a shared sense of purpose. It helps caregivers and patients feel less isolated and more empowered in facing the disease. Another critical factor is staying informed about current brain health research and clinical advances. I found that understanding what’s happening in the science behind Parkinson’s fosters hope and encourages active participation in treatment decisions. The PBS special highlighting brain health and Parkinson’s brings awareness to these issues and shines a light on the stories behind the statistics. Unconditional love truly is the cornerstone of caregiving. Moments of connection—whether it’s a smile, a shared memory, or simply being present—offer strength and meaning amid uncertainty. The memory of loved ones lost to Parkinson’s motivates many advocates to continue the fight for a cure and better care. If you or someone you know is affected by Parkinson’s, remember you are not alone. Resources exist to help you navigate this journey, and raising awareness through platforms like TogetherForSharon® helps build a collective voice to support every family impacted by neurodegenerative diseases.
