Wow, it truly feels like just yesterday I was walking across that stage at John McDonogh High School! I still can't believe it's been 20 whole years since our Class of 2005 graduation. Thinking back to those days, it's wild how much has changed, and yet some memories feel as fresh as 'Forever Green & Gold' itself. The thought of two decades passing by so quickly is almost surreal. Do you remember what it was like graduating in 2005? It was such a unique time, a real turning point. Flip phones were still a common sight, MySpace was the reigning social media platform where we curated our top 8 friends, and the internet was still finding its dominant place in everyday life. We were truly the generation straddling the pre-internet boom and the rapidly accelerating digital age, heading into an exciting, albeit uncertain, future. I recall the palpable buzz among my fellow Trojans, discussing college plans, first jobs, and what life would be like outside the familiar halls of John Mac. Every conversation was filled with dreams and anxieties about the unknown. One of the things I cherish most about my time at John McDonogh was the incredible sense of community. Those Friday night football games, cheering on our Trojans, the school dances filled with awkward but fun moments, and the late-night study sessions fueled by snacks and shared stress – they all built a foundation of friendships that, even after two decades, still mean the world to me. The camaraderie we shared, wearing our 'Forever Green & Gold' with pride, felt unbreakable. It makes you wonder where everyone is now, doesn't it? Have you reconnected with your classmates from 2005? It's always a treat to stumble upon an old friend on social media or at a local event and catch up on all the years in between. Looking back, I often think about the advice I'd give my 18-year-old self. I'd tell myself to embrace every single moment, even the challenging ones, because they all contribute to who you become. Don't be afraid to take risks, step outside your comfort zone, and most importantly, cherish those bonds you're forming. High school is such a formative period, a crucible where personalities are forged and dreams begin to take shape. Those years at John McDonogh truly shaped who I am today, instilling values and providing experiences that have stuck with me. The spirit of our 'Forever Green & Gold' lives on, not just in faded yearbooks and old photos, but in the lessons we learned and the resilience we built as a class. The milestone of 20 years also brings a sense of reflection on all the personal growth and changes we've each experienced. From career paths to starting families, from exploring new cities to navigating life's unexpected turns, the journey since 2005 has been rich and varied. It's a testament to the strength and adaptability of the Class of 2005.
