Plus, you get to witness the incredible Dawn Patrol and the inflation process up close, which is just as mesmerizing as the balloons taking off. 2. Dress in Layers (Seriously, All the Layers!) New Mexico mornings can be surprisingly chilly, even in early October! I learned this the hard way. We started bundled up in jackets, hats, and scarves, but once the sun came up and the burners started firing, it warmed up quickly. So, definitely wear layers that you can easily shed and carry around. Comfortable walking shoes are also a must, as you’ll be doing a lot of strolling across the field. 3. Bring Your Essentials Think like you're going on a mini-hike. I packed a small backpack with water bottles, some snacks (though there are plenty of vendors), a portable charger for my phone (you'll be taking a LOT of photos and videos!), and a small blanket to sit on while waiting. Don't forget your camera with plenty of storage and extra batteries. You'll want to capture every single moment of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta 2024! 4. Walk Among the Balloons! This was one of the most incredible parts of my visit. Unlike many events where you're kept far away, at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, you can actually walk right onto the launch field and mingle with the balloon crews as they prepare for takeoff. Seeing these massive, vibrant balloons inflate right next to you, hearing the roar of the burners, and even chatting with the pilots is an unforgettable, immersive experience. The Balloon Glows and fireworks displays in the evenings are absolutely breathtaking.
