hair routine for my thick/wavy hair
#lemon8diarychallenge it doesn’t look like it in the photo but i actually have thick, wavy hair. I’ve done a lot to my hair and this is how I keep it smooth and somewhat healthy!
I start with the bar shampoo and conditioner, lather the bar directly in your hair and on your scalp to get the suds going, then lather the rest of your hair.
I use the hair mask once or twice a week, i leave it in for 5 minutes after shampooing but before conditioning for best results:)
I take a dime sized amount of moroccan oil and coat my hair with it after my hair is styled and ready to go, or you can do it directly out of the shower.
I apply leave in conditioner in my wet hair after every wash and leave it in (hence the name i guess LOL), it leaves my hair soft and easy to style!
Okay, so you've got thick, wavy hair like me? Then you know it's a blessing and a challenge all rolled into one! While my original routine shared the products I swear by, I wanted to dive a little deeper into why these steps work and what else I do to keep my waves looking their best. Because let's be real, managing thick wavy hair isn't just about what you put on it, but how you treat it! First off, let's talk about washing and conditioning. I've found that using a shampoo bar, especially one infused with something like rice water, makes a huge difference. It feels so gentle on my scalp yet cleanses thoroughly without stripping my hair. When I lather it directly, I really focus on massaging my scalp – it's like a mini spa moment and helps stimulate growth! For the conditioner bar, a honey and vanilla scented one is my absolute favorite, not just for the amazing smell but for the deep hydration it provides. I make sure to distribute it well, especially concentrating on the mid-lengths and ends where my hair tends to get drier. And here's a tip: don't rinse all of it out immediately! Let it sit for a few minutes while you do other shower tasks. This allows the conditioner to really penetrate. Next up, the hair mask. You saw I use it once or twice a week, but the secret for thick hair is consistency. My hair can get quite dry and prone to frizz, so this hair treatment is my weekly rescue. I apply it after shampooing and before conditioning. This way, the mask can deliver its deep nutrients without being blocked by the conditioner, and then the conditioner seals it all in. I leave it on for at least 5 minutes, sometimes longer if I have time, by tying my hair up in a gentle clip. It truly makes my hair feel like silk afterwards. Now, for those crucial post-wash steps! Leave-in conditioner is non-negotiable for my thick, wavy hair. After gently towel-drying (I actually use an old cotton t-shirt to prevent frizz!), I apply a generous amount from mid-shaft to ends. It helps with detangling, prevents knots, and adds an extra layer of moisture that my hair just soaks up. This step is key for keeping your waves soft and defined without feeling crunchy. And finally, hair oil. The long-lasting hair oil I use is a game-changer for shine and frizz control. I usually take just a dime-sized amount, warm it between my palms, and gently scrunch it into my waves once my hair is mostly dry. If my ends look a little dry between washes, I'll apply a tiny bit then too. It seals in moisture and gives my hair that healthy, glossy finish without weighing it down. Beyond products, how you dry your hair is vital. I try to air dry whenever possible, but if I need to speed things up, I use a diffuser on the cool setting. Avoid rubbing your hair aggressively with a regular towel – that's a recipe for frizz! Gentle scrunching or "plopping" in a t-shirt works wonders. Another thing I've learned is to detangle gently. Always start from the ends and work your way up with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers when your hair is wet and coated with conditioner. Brushing dry, wavy hair can break up your wave pattern and lead to frizz. Lastly, don't forget about protecting your hair overnight. I often sleep with my hair in a loose pineapple bun on top of my head or use a silk pillowcase. This helps prevent tangles and keeps my waves intact until morning. Taking care of thick, wavy hair is a journey, but with the right routine and a little patience, you can achieve those smooth, healthy, beautiful waves you've always wanted!

Hi! I have thick curly and frizzy hair and I rarely do a curly hair routine so I normally leave it in a ponytail for school. I shower everyday along with getting my hair wet everyday. I shampoo every 2-3 days but I condition everyday. Should I be conditioning everyday?
