Ube Blueberry Matcha

My favorite fruit and matcha pairing will always be blueberry! The ube made it even 10 times better!

What’s in it

- 4 grams of matcha

- 45 ml hot water

- 1/2 cup of ube milk (ube extract + milk)

- 1.5 tbsp blueberry preserves

The key to making beautiful layered drinks is literally experimenting with weight, density and patience! Most of the time it’s focusing on pouring slowly onto the ice up top so it doesn’t sink.

From my experience, the secret to achieving those beautiful layers lies in pouring each component with care and patience. Start with your blueberry preserves at the bottom, as its thicker consistency allows it to stay put. Adding ice slowly prevents the layers from mixing prematurely. When pouring the ube milk, which consists of ube extract blended with milk, make sure to do it gently over the back of a spoon to slow the pour and maintain separation from the bottom layer. The matcha layer on top requires careful preparation. Use 4 grams of high-quality matcha whisked well with about 45 ml of hot water to create a smooth, frothy consistency. Slowly pour the matcha over the ice to keep the layers distinct and preserve the vibrant green color. Experimenting with the weight and density of each ingredient is crucial. For example, adjust the thickness of your ube milk or blueberry preserves by tweaking the ratio of liquid to solid components. This balance affects how the layers hold or blend together. From a flavor perspective, the earthy bitterness of matcha pairs wonderfully with the sweet and fruity blueberry preserves. The ube milk adds a creamy, slightly nutty undertone that enhances the drink’s overall complexity. This layered beverage is perfect for a refreshing afternoon treat or a nonalcoholic option during Dry January. Sharing this drink during a Lemon8 challenge is sure to impress fellow enthusiasts. With some practice, you’ll enjoy crafting gorgeous and tasty Ube Blueberry Matcha drinks that are as delightful to look at as they are to sip.
