My first prom :)

Okay, so my first junior prom was definitely an experience! You always hear about prom, see it in movies, and build it up in your head, but actually living it is something else entirely. Now that the glitter has settled and the music's faded, I wanted to share my honest "takeaways from junior prom" – what really made the night, what surprised me, and what I’ll remember most. 1. Your Squad Makes the Night (Seriously!) This is probably my biggest takeaway: who you spend it with matters more than anything else. I went with my absolute best buddies, and honestly, they were the highlight. We were cracking jokes, dancing horribly (but enthusiastically!), and just living in the moment. We even decided to do a hilarious "fake maternity shoot Vibes" in front of one of the backdrops, and those pictures are now priceless. It wasn't about having a perfect date; it was about sharing a milestone with the people who get you. If you’re stressing about going with a date, don’t! Focus on your friends. 2. Manage Your Expectations (Especially for the Food!) Let's be real, prom isn't always a Michelin-star dining experience. We were all looking forward to "food time!!", but I have to say, the "chicken was...as dry as it looks" was a bit of a letdown! It was a good laugh, though. This taught me that not every detail will be perfect, and that’s totally fine. The magic isn’t in the flawlessly catered meal or the fancy decorations; it's in the atmosphere and the company. So, eat a good meal before you go, and don't let small things ruin your big night. 3. The After-Party is Part of the Adventure Prom night doesn't end when the dance does. For us, the "post prom ferris wheel !!" was an iconic moment. There’s something so cool about being up high, looking down at the lights, after such a high-energy event. It was a perfect, slightly quieter way to wind down and reflect on the fun we just had. Whether it’s a ferris wheel, a diner run, or just chilling with your friends, plan something for after the main event. Those moments often become some of the most cherished memories. 4. Don't Stress Too Much About the Outfit While getting ready was a fun part of the day, I realized that once you're there, everyone is just focused on having a good time. Yes, you want to feel good in what you're wearing, but don't let the pressure of finding the "perfect" dress or suit overshadow the actual event. Comfort is key, especially if you plan on dancing all night! I saw so many people pulling at their outfits or struggling with uncomfortable shoes. My advice? Choose something you love and can move freely in. 5. Embrace the Chaos and Just Enjoy It Prom is one of those classic high school experiences, and it flies by so fast. There might be awkward photos, bad food, or moments where you wonder what you're even doing. But those are all part of the story! My takeaway is to just lean into it, take a lot of pictures (even the silly ones), and soak up the energy. It’s a unique time in your life, surrounded by friends who are all growing up together. These are the memories you’ll look back on and smile about. It was truly "My first prom :)" and I wouldn't change a thing.
