November Empties with Reviews 7/35
❌❌❌-10/10 ~ This is the ClarityRx Get Clean Crushed Bamboo Exfoliator. I did NOT finish this!!! I used it once and immediately had to throw it away. I had the WORST allergic reaction to this I’ve ever had to a product before (and at that I’ve only had an allergic reaction to one other product in my entire life). I used this to exfoliate my face at night, and woke up the next morning to my face on fire, itchy, bright red and broken out. This reaction lasted about 5 days before it went away, even after taking Benadryl multiple times. It hurt my face so bad. It felt very harsh when I used it anyways but I thought maybe it was just a rougher formula. I even put all my calming products on that I use when my face reacts weird to something and none of them worked either. Everything just burned my skin even worse. So I’ve spent weeks now trying to rebuild my skin barrier. This is by far the worst product I have ever used and I will never repurchase it or recommend it to someone else. #empties #november #skincare #productreview #allergicreaction
My recent experience with an exfoliating skincare product, the ClarityRx Get Clean Crushed Bamboo Exfoliator, was a harsh reminder of how important it is to truly know what you're putting on your skin. What started as an attempt to achieve that glowing, renewed look ended in a severe allergic reaction that left my face red, itchy, and burning for nearly a week. I wanted to share more about what I learned from this ordeal, especially for anyone else out there with sensitive skin or concerns about harsh facial scrubs. When a product promises to be great for polishing and renewing dull skin, it's easy to get excited. Like many, I was hoping for that fresh, smooth complexion. However, my skin reacted so violently to this specific formula. It made me realize that even popular ingredients can cause issues, and that 'natural' doesn't always mean 'gentle'. For me, the crushed bamboo particles felt incredibly rough, almost abrasive, which was my first red flag. If an exfoliator feels like it's scratching your skin, it probably is. Understanding Exfoliation & Allergic Reactions There are generally two types of exfoliants: physical and chemical. Physical exfoliants use small particles (like beads, sugar, or in this case, crushed bamboo) to manually scrub away dead skin cells. Chemical exfoliants use acids (like AHAs or BHAs) or enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells. While both can be effective for polishing and renewing dull skin, physical exfoliants, especially those with irregularly shaped particles, can sometimes cause micro-tears in the skin, leading to irritation, redness, and even compromising your skin barrier. For me, the immediate burning sensation and subsequent extreme redness and breakouts pointed to a severe inflammatory response, likely an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients combined with physical irritation. Tips for Avoiding a Skincare Nightmare After my encounter, I've become even more diligent about introducing new products, especially exfoliating skincare products, into my routine. Here's what I've learned and what I recommend: Patch Test Religiously: Always, always patch test new products. Apply a small amount to an inconspicuous area, like behind your ear or on your inner forearm, and wait 24-48 hours to see if there's any reaction. I wish I had done this more thoroughly with the ClarityRx exfoliator! Research Ingredients: Look beyond the marketing claims. If you have known sensitivities, research common irritants. Fragrances, essential oils, and certain preservatives are frequent culprits in allergic reactions. Even natural ingredients can be potent allergens. Listen to Your Skin: If a product feels harsh, stings, or burns (beyond a mild tingle for some chemical exfoliants), wash it off immediately. Don't push through discomfort thinking it's 'working'. Your skin is giving you a clear signal. Rebuilding a Compromised Skin Barrier: If you do have a reaction, focus on gentle, barrier-repairing ingredients. Look for ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and colloidal oatmeal. Avoid actives like retinoids, Vitamin C, and other exfoliants until your skin fully recovers. Keep your routine simple and hydrating. My journey to rebuild my skin barrier took weeks, using only the gentlest cleansers and moisturizers. It was a frustrating and uncomfortable period. While others might have different experiences with the ClarityRx Get Clean Crushed Bamboo Exfoliator, my personal takeaway is to prioritize gentle care, especially when aiming for that renewed skin feel. There are many effective and gentle ways to achieve beautiful, radiant skin without risking such a severe reaction.

The fact that you had to throw it away after one use is wild. I hope your skin is feeling much better now after all that recovery!
