starting a new tradition 🎄

My mom, who has a knack for getting me into the Christmas decorating spirit, gave me the bug this year. Instead of putting up my tree on the usual November 1st, I decided to do something different. I put it up on Thanksgiving morning, so that my family and I could decorate it together that night. It’s been such a fun activity that has brought us closer and created a bonding moment after we all woke up from our food comas. I think this will become a new tradition for us to look forward to for years to come.

... Read moreStarting new Christmas traditions is one of my favorite ways to make the holiday season feel extra special and create lasting memories with loved ones. While some traditions are passed down through generations, there’s something truly magical about intentionally creating new ones that resonate with your family today. I recently tried decorating our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving night, and it was such a hit – a simple change that sparked so much joy and connection! Why New Traditions Matter for Your Family Traditions, whether old or new, serve as anchors during the bustling holiday season. They provide a sense of continuity, comfort, and anticipation. For families, they’re opportunities to: Create Shared Memories: These are the moments everyone looks back on and smiles about. Foster Connection: Dedicated time spent together, focused on a shared activity, naturally brings people closer. Build Anticipation: Knowing a special tradition is coming up adds to the excitement of the season. Instill Values: Many traditions, especially those involving giving or reflection, can teach important life lessons. Simple & Sweet Ideas for Creating Your Own Christmas Traditions Beyond decorating the tree, there are so many wonderful ways to start a new tradition. Here are a few ideas that might spark your imagination: Themed Pajama Night: Pick a specific night, like Christmas Eve or the first night of December, where everyone gets new festive pajamas. Then, cozy up for a Christmas movie marathon with hot cocoa! Cookie Baking Extravaganza: Designate a day to bake and decorate Christmas cookies together. You can even package some up to give to neighbors or friends. Holiday Lights Tour: Pile into the car with some snacks and holiday music, and drive around to see the best Christmas light displays in your neighborhood or a nearby town. Handmade Ornament Day: Gather craft supplies and spend an afternoon making personalized ornaments. Each year, your tree will tell a story with these unique creations. Christmas Eve Box: Prepare a special box for each child (or even adults!) to open on Christmas Eve, filled with a new pair of pajamas, a Christmas book, a small treat, and maybe a small game. It helps build excitement for the next day. Giving Back: Choose a charity or cause to support together each year. Whether it's adopting a family, volunteering at a soup kitchen, or collecting toys, it's a powerful way to teach generosity. Special Holiday Meal: Beyond the main Christmas dinner, perhaps a specific themed breakfast on Christmas morning, or a festive brunch on Boxing Day. Tips for Making New Traditions Stick Start Small: Don't feel pressured to create something elaborate. Simple, heartfelt activities often become the most cherished. Involve Everyone: Ask family members what they’d like to do. When everyone has a say, they're more invested. Be Flexible: Life happens! If a tradition can't happen one year, don't stress. It's okay for them to evolve or be skipped occasionally. Focus on the Experience: The goal isn't perfection, but shared joy and connection. Document It: Take photos, jot down notes in a journal. These memories become even more precious over time. Embracing the spirit of creating new Christmas traditions adds a unique layer of warmth and wonder to the holidays. It's about designing moments that your family will look forward to and cherish for years to come. Happy tradition-making!

Birthday tradition I WON’T be doing with my kids🙅🏻‍♀️
I grew up getting my face smashed in my birthday cake every year. As a little kid I did not like it & there’s even pictures of me crying. As a teenager I didn’t mind it, & as a young adult & adult I don’t like it just cause I don’t like stuff on my face or people touching my face.
