Sister loc update 3rd re-tie!!
I can definitely see the back is maturing more than the front because of the manipulation in the front that I did from having leave out and flat irons and stuff, but it’s all better but this is definitely for me the ugly stage because there’s nothing that I can do with my hair but just let it do what it do. #sisterlocjourney #sisterlocs sisterlocs
Going through the 3rd re-tie of sister locs has been a unique experience for me, especially noticing that the back of my hair matures faster than the front. This uneven progress can be a bit frustrating at times, particularly when previous styling habits like leaving out hair or using flat irons have affected the front section’s ability to lock as fast. From my personal journey, I’ve learned that patience is key during this phase. While the back looks more developed and mature, the front can feel like it’s stuck in an awkward state, which many refer to as the "ugly stage". During this time, I try to minimize manipulation on my hair as much as possible to allow the locks to naturally form and mature. Resist the urge to constantly retwist or style aggressively because this can cause thinning or breakage, especially when your hair isn’t fully locked yet. Instead, gentle maintenance and a healthy hair care routine—including moisturizing, scalp care, and protective styles—can support the healing and locking process. I also find that embracing the natural look at this stage helps with mental ease. Remember, sister locs require time to fully flourish, and the uneven look between the front and back is very common. Sharing and following the #sisterlocjourney and #sisterlocs communities online has been very encouraging. They provide tips, support, and show that everyone experiences a phase where the locs need to "just do what they do" without interference. If you’re also in this phase, try to celebrate the small progress with each re-tie and focus on healthy hair practices rather than rushing the styling. Trust that with time, your sister locs will mature evenly and beautifully.
