... Read moreMy Journey from Compulsive Shopper to Savvy Saver! Hey everyone! You know, my username "Tercid-Compradora Compulsiva" (Tercid-Compulsive Shopper) used to be a little too real for me. I've been on a journey to transform my shopping habits, and I've learned so much about what's truly essential and what's just a drain on my wallet and the planet. As an intelligent woman who works hard for her money, I've realized that smart spending isn't about deprivation; it's about making conscious choices. So, I wanted to share my personal "absolutely not" list – those things I now actively choose not to buy, and why it's made such a difference! First up, let's talk about those infamous water bottles. I used to be one of those people who thought I needed a different water bottle to match every single one of my outfits. Crazy, right? Buying multiple plastic water bottles just for the aesthetics, simply for being able to combine them with my silly clothes, was totally unnecessary and a complete waste of money. Not to mention the environmental impact! I finally woke up and embraced the power of the word: reusable. Now, I have one or two high-quality reusable bottles that I love, and they go with everything because their purpose isn't to be a fashion statement; it's to keep me hydrated. It’s a simple change, but it saves money and reduces plastic waste significantly. Then there's the "jungle house" phenomenon. I adore plants, don't get me wrong! But there was a phase where I felt pressured to turn my apartment into a botanical garden because it was trending. I ended up with a mess of plants everywhere – living room, kitchen, bedroom – that needed constant care, specific light, and often died because I couldn't keep up. It was totally unnecessary and even a waste of money because they're not cheap, and neither is replacing them! Now, I focus on a few beloved, low-maintenance plants that genuinely bring me joy and fit my space without overwhelming it. My home feels calmer, and my wallet is happier. You don’t need your house to look like a jungle to be beautiful. What about those fleeting fashion trends, like certain Kardashian tights or other celebrity-endorsed items? It's so easy to get swept up in the hype! My rule now is to pause and ask myself: "Will I truly love and use this item beyond this season? Does it align with my personal style, or am I just buying it because everyone else is?" I've learned to appreciate timeless pieces and invest in quality over quick trends. My hard-earned money now goes towards things that truly add value to my life, not just temporary satisfaction. Another item on my "don't buy" list? Unnecessary single-use items beyond water bottles. Think about excessive paper towels when you could use cloths, or impulse purchases at the checkout line. Every small "no" adds up to big savings and a less cluttered life. I've also reconsidered complex beauty routines; sometimes, focusing on basic health like hydrating properly (with my reusable bottle!) and getting enough sleep can do more than a cabinet full of expensive, niche products. You might even find you can grow your own hair healthier by focusing on internal wellness rather than external fixes! My biggest takeaway is this: before you buy anything, ask yourself, "Is this truly necessary? Will it bring lasting value or joy?" By consciously choosing what not to buy, I've freed up funds for experiences, savings, and the things that genuinely matter to me. It's incredibly empowering. I'd love to hear from you! What are some things you've stopped buying, or things you wouldn't buy, to save money and live more intentionally? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
