It used to feel like an endless mountain, but now, it’s just another part of keeping our home running smoothly. I’m in Illinois, and with a busy household, efficiency is key! My biggest tip for tackling that freshly washed load is to start *right away*. Don't let clean clothes sit in the basket for days – that's when the overwhelm sets in! As soon as the dryer buzzes, I try to get to it. Even if I just have 15 minutes, I can usually get a good portion of the load folded and put away. This prevents massive piles from forming and keeps our living spaces looking much tidier. For different items, I have a few go-to methods. For t-shirts, I swear by the KonMari method (or a variation of it). It’s super simple: lay the shirt flat, fold both sides towards the center, then fold the sleeves back, and finally, fold it into thirds or quarters. This way, they stand upright in drawers, saving space and making it easy to see everything. No more rummaging! Pants, especially jeans, I fold in half lengthwise, then in half or thirds crosswise. For dressier pants, I might hang them to avoid creases. Towels are also straightforward – I fold them into neat, uniform rectangles. This makes them stack beautifully in the linen closet, which, I admit, is a small joy for me! Sheets used to be my nemesis, especially fitted ones. But I’ve conquered them! My trick is to tuck the corners into each other. Lay the fitted sheet inside out on a flat surface, tuck one corner into another at the same end, then repeat for the other two corners. You'll end up with two tucked corners at each end. Then, fold the entire thing into a rectangle and fold one more time for a neat square. It sounds complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a game-changer! Another thing I've learned is to make the process a bit more enjoyable. I often put on my favorite podcast or some music while I'm folding laundry. It transforms it from a dreaded task into a moment of mindful productivity. Sometimes, I even involve my kids – teaching them how to fold their own clothes means less work for me and teaches them responsibility. Even little ones can help sort or put away their socks! After folding, the next crucial step is putting everything away immediately. Don't let those neatly folded piles become new baskets! Having designated spots for everything makes this quick and easy. My drawers and shelves are so much happier when they’re organized. So, if you're looking to make folding laundry less of a drag, try these tips! It really helps to break down the task, have a system for different items, and make it a little more pleasant. You'll be amazed at how much calmer your home feels with less laundry chaos. What are your favorite laundry hacks? I’d love to hear them!
