new update
Sharing my recent experiences post-heart transplant, I've been navigating several new health hurdles that many in the transplant community might relate to. One significant update is my ongoing management of Addison's disease, which affects my adrenal glands and requires careful monitoring by an endocrinologist. This adds complexity to my daily routine, especially as I balance three different medications each day. Additionally, an orthopedic doctor recently spotted bone concerns, likely related to long-term steroid use, which is common among transplant patients. These steroids are critical for preventing organ rejection but can lead to bone weakness, so staying proactive with bone health is vital. Living with chronic illnesses, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), means following a strict CKD diet to support kidney function while maintaining overall health. My journey includes frequent appointments and treatments not just for the heart transplant but also to manage these interconnected conditions. A crucial part of this journey has been the incredible support from my community, including fundraising efforts that help cover medical payments, travel costs to medical centers like Pittsburgh Memorial, and daily living expenses. Managing these alongside my health can be overwhelming, but the support makes a real difference. To anyone facing a similar path, I recommend staying informed about all aspects of your health post-transplant, communicating openly with your healthcare team, and seeking community support. Daily vlogging and sharing updates have helped me connect with others experiencing similar challenges, fostering a sense of not being alone. Remember, every transplant journey is unique, and ongoing care is essential for long-term wellness.
