Silly Engagement Photos

Choosing engagement photos can be such an exciting, yet sometimes daunting, part of wedding planning! Everyone wants those beautiful, romantic shots, but my fiancé and I really wanted to inject our unique personalities into our shoot. We decided early on that we also wanted some truly silly engagement photos that would make us laugh every time we looked at them. And let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions we made! If you're considering veering away from the super traditional, here are a few tips and ideas based on our experience to help you get those perfectly *funny awkward engagement photos*: First, embrace your genuine selves. Don't be afraid to let your guard down and just be playful. Our photographer was amazing at giving us prompts that encouraged us to be silly. Imagine the "Lift Him Up" shot – it wasn't posed, it just happened because we were having so much fun, and it perfectly captures our goofy dynamic! The goal is to get shots that truly feel like *you*, not just a picture-perfect version of you. Next, think about what makes you laugh together. Do you have inside jokes? Silly traditions? Incorporate them! For our "Winning at Life" photo, we just grabbed a bottle and started acting ridiculous on the beach, and it ended up being one of our favorites. These personal touches are what make your photos uniquely yours and truly memorable. Communicate your vision to your photographer. We explicitly told ours we wanted some "UNCOMMON engagement photos" alongside the classic ones. This gave them the green light to suggest more unconventional poses and moments. For instance, the idea of parodying a somewhat stuffy "JC Penny Inspired" pose came from our photographer, and the result was absolutely hilarious! A good photographer will help guide you and make you feel comfortable enough to be yourselves. Consider using props or engaging in an activity. Sometimes having something to interact with, even if it's just a funny hat or a favorite snack, can spark those natural, comical reactions. We just used the beautiful beach environment to our advantage, but a picnic with a playful food fight, or even a simple game, could lead to some fantastic *funny engagement photos*. Finally, don't be afraid of a little "awkwardness." Some of the most charming and authentic photos come from those in-between moments or when you're just trying something new and it feels a bit clumsy. Those are the ones that often bring out the biggest smiles and laughs later on. It’s all part of the fun! It makes flipping through them so much more enjoyable and and truly tells the story of our relationship.
