Over the years, I've found that incorporating a few specific steps into my nightly skincare routine makes a significant difference. Starting with a gentle cleansing is key; avoid harsh soaps or exfoliants that can strip your skin further. After cleansing, I apply a small amount of olive oil—a natural emollient rich in antioxidants and vitamins A and E. It soothes and nourishes my skin without feeling greasy. Once the olive oil absorbs slightly, I seal in the moisture using petroleum jelly. This occlusive agent forms a protective barrier on the skin, preventing water loss overnight. Despite some misconceptions, petroleum jelly is incredibly safe and effective for very dry skin when used appropriately. This two-step approach helps reduce flaking and discomfort caused by dryness. I've also noticed my skin feels softer and more resilient in the mornings. For others dealing with dry, scaly skin, consistency is vital. Stick to this routine every night, and consider keeping your bedroom humidified to avoid drying out your skin further. Lastly, staying hydrated and eating a balanced diet rich in omega-3s can support skin health from the inside out. Remember, every skin type is unique, so it might take some time to see results, but this method has been a game-changer in my experience.
