I used to call them my 'failures' or 'not-good-enoughs,' but now I've found a much more freeing term: 'trashbuns.' What are 'trashbuns,' you ask? Well, for me, they're those creative drafts you're too scared to share because they're not perfect. They're the raw, unfiltered beginnings of something potentially amazing, or maybe just something fun that won't ever see the light of day otherwise. The truth is, sometimes the most authentic and inspiring content comes from these 'trashbuns.' Someone recently challenged me to 'post your draft!' and it really got me thinking. Why don't we share these little nuggets of creativity? I've realized that the pressure to be perfect often paralyzes us. We wait for the masterpiece, the viral hit, the perfectly polished piece, and in doing so, we miss out on connecting with others through our process. Sharing your 'trashbuns' isn't about showcasing perfection; it's about showing up, being vulnerable, and inviting others into your creative world. It's about saying, 'Hey, this is where I'm at, and it's okay!' For example, one of my ongoing 'trashbuns' is a concept I've loosely titled 'RVEST.' It's just a jumble of ideas right now – a character sketch here, a plot point there, maybe a few lines of dialogue. It’s nowhere near a finished story, but sharing even just the idea has been liberating. Another one is 'GREEN PEA SNACKS' – a whimsical idea for a healthy, crunchy treat that's still very much in the experimental phase. I've got ingredient lists scribbled down and a few failed attempts in my kitchen, but the journey of creating it is part of the fun. These aren't polished products, but they represent my creative energy. So, if you're like me and have a treasure trove of 'trashbuns,' I genuinely encourage you to start sharing them. Here are a few reasons why: It breaks the perfectionism cycle: You'll realize that imperfection is beautiful and often more relatable. You might get valuable feedback: Sometimes, an outside perspective is all you need to turn a 'trashbun' into something great. It inspires others: Seeing someone else's raw process can make others feel less alone in their own creative struggles. It tracks your progress: Look back at your 'trashbuns' a year from now and see how far you've come! It builds community: Sharing your authentic self fosters genuine connections. Don't overthink it. Just pick one 'trashbun' – that doodle, that poem, that half-written song, that quirky recipe idea – and post it! Use #trashbuns and let's create a community where drafts are celebrated, not hidden. You never know what magic might unfold when you dare to share your unfinished creations.
