Jobs that I’ve worked : KFC/Tacobell

Daily Tasks: cashiering, back cashiering and washing dishes, sometime bagging food

pay: I negotiated my pay and walked in there with a pearl necklace and my business attire on so manager said he knew I didn’t come to play any games. I got hire that the 7.25 min wage in Georgia at the time

Best part: free food! That food was so good and the combination of both kfc and Taco Bell was crazyyy !!!!

Worst part: that place is dirty !!!! I hated washing dishes , and since I left that job I would never eat at another kfc or taco bell. Their cleaning standards are terrible !!!

Rate 5/10 and that’s being nice !

I also still have my name tags from the job 15years ago. They are all in my memory box.

... Read moreWhen people ask about my first job, I always have to tell them about my time at the combined KFC and Taco Bell. It wasn't just a job; it was an eye-opening experience that truly showed me what a 'blue-collar' role really entails. If you're wondering if working at a fast-food joint like KFC or Taco Bell fits that description, my answer is a resounding yes. It involves manual labor, long hours on your feet, and a focus on operational tasks rather than office work. The daily grind was physically demanding, from scrubbing countless dishes to constantly moving to keep up with orders, definitely aligning with the blue-collar classification. My daily tasks were varied, which kept things from getting too monotonous, but also meant I was always busy. I spent a lot of time on the front line as a cashier, dealing with customers and managing transactions. Then there was 'back cashiering,' which involved working the drive-thru window and ensuring orders were accurate and fast. And, of course, the infamous dishwashing – a task I quickly learned to despise, especially given the sheer volume and the often less-than-ideal cleaning standards. I also helped with bagging food, making sure everything was packed correctly for hungry customers. Looking back, the skills I picked up, like speed, multitasking, and customer service, are surprisingly transferable, even if the work itself wasn't glamorous. Sometimes I look at my old name tags and remember those days, it feels like a lifetime ago! One of the most interesting parts of my experience was negotiating my pay. When I started, the minimum wage in Georgia was $7.25, but I managed to secure $8 an hour. This goes to show that even in fast-food jobs, there can be a little wiggle room if you present yourself confidently and advocate for your worth. For anyone considering a Taco Bell or KFC job, don't be afraid to ask about the pay structure and if there's any flexibility, especially if you have prior experience. While it wasn't a huge jump, every bit counts, especially when you're just starting out in the workforce. Undoubtedly, the best perk of working at a KFC/Taco Bell combo was the free food. Having access to both menus was a dream come true for my taste buds back then! The combination of classic fried chicken and delicious tacos was truly unbeatable. However, this perk came with a downside that ultimately soured my view. The hygiene standards, particularly in the dish area, were a major concern. It was so bad that once I left, I swore off eating at any KFC or Taco Bell again. This experience heavily contributed to my overall 5/10 rating for the job. So, who is a job like this for? If you're looking for an entry-level position, need flexible hours, or just want to gain some initial work experience, a fast-food job at KFC or Taco Bell can definitely fit the bill. It teaches you discipline, speed, and how to handle customer interactions, both good and bad. However, be prepared for demanding physical work and potentially challenging conditions. While it provided me with valuable lessons, my personal experience, especially concerning cleanliness and the repetitive nature of some tasks, led to my somewhat lukewarm rating. It’s a job that will teach you a lot, but it might also teach you what you don't want in a career!
