When planning a maternity photoshoot, often the focus is entirely on the mama-to-be, and rightfully so! But let's be real, the partner plays a huge role in this journey and in front of the camera too. I remember stressing a bit about what my partner should wear, wanting something that felt natural, comfortable, and complemented my look without stealing the spotlight. It's not always easy to find specific inspiration for men's maternity photoshoot outfits, so I wanted to share some of my insights. From my experience, the key for men's outfits in a maternity shoot is simplicity and comfort. You want him to look relaxed and happy, not stiff or out of place. One of the most timeless and versatile options, as seen in many of our photos, is a classic pair of jeans paired with a simple white t-shirt or a light-colored button-down. This combination works wonders because it's effortlessly chic and allows the focus to remain on the beautiful connection between you two and the bump. We opted for light blue jeans and white tops, which gave our photos a bright, airy feel. The great thing about jeans and a white t-shirt is that it suits almost any setting, from an indoor studio to an outdoor park. Beyond the classic combo, think about texture and fit. For jeans, a good fit is crucial – not too baggy, not too tight. A straight or slim fit often looks best. If you're going for a slightly more elevated casual look, consider ditching the t-shirt for a well-fitting, light-colored button-up shirt, perhaps with the sleeves rolled up. This adds a touch of sophistication without being overly formal. For cooler weather, a simple, solid-colored sweater or a plain crew-neck long-sleeve top can also look fantastic. The goal is to choose items that won't distract with busy patterns or logos. Another detail that often gets overlooked is footwear – or the lack thereof! In our shoot, we went barefoot, which contributed to the relaxed, intimate vibe of the photos. Depending on your location and desired aesthetic, going barefoot can add a touch of authenticity. If shoes are a must, simple, clean sneakers (like white canvas shoes) or casual leather loafers in neutral tones work well. Avoid anything too clunky or brightly colored. Don't forget how important it is for his outfit to complement yours. You don't necessarily need to match exactly, but aim for a cohesive color palette. If you're wearing soft pastels, he could wear light neutrals. If you're in a bold color, he could wear a complementary muted tone. The idea is to create a harmonious visual without one person overpowering the other. And remember, thrifting for men's clothes can be incredibly rewarding! We found some great pieces that were high quality and perfectly fit our vision without breaking the bank. It's all about finding pieces that make both of you feel good and genuinely yourselves, so your personalities can shine through in every precious shot.
