Prom dump

... Read moreWow, looking back at my prom dump from the Oregon Coast, it really brings back all the amazing feels! It got me thinking about how special prom night is, no matter when you experience it. Even though my prom was just recently, with all the latest trends and music, I sometimes wonder what it was like for those who went to prom back in the day, say, around 1997. It’s wild to think about how much has changed, but also how much has stayed the same. I can just imagine what prom 1997 might have been like! While the fashion has definitely evolved – perhaps more velvet or satin, fewer modern cutouts, and different hairstyles like big updos or crimped hair were all the rage – the core excitement of choosing that perfect dress must have been exactly the same. I bet a classic and elegant 'blue prom dress' was still a popular choice, just like it is today, standing out beautifully in photos. Planning with your 'besties,' getting ready together, and the anticipation building up for the big night – those moments transcend decades. I picture students gathering for photos before the dance, just like we did under a beautiful blooming tree, capturing those precious pre-dance memories that you'll look back on for years. The music would have been totally different too, right? Instead of today's pop hits, it would have been all about grunge, R&B, and pop from artists like Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys. But the feeling of hitting the dance floor with your friends, swaying to the rhythm, and just letting loose would be universal. And the thrill of being part of something so iconic, like hoping to be on 'prom court' and proudly wearing a special 'sash' – that sense of recognition and celebration is a timeless part of the prom experience. It's fascinating to think about these little details that change, while the big picture remains constant. What truly strikes me is how some things never change. The core magic of prom – celebrating the end of senior year, making unforgettable memories with your closest friends, and feeling like royalty for one incredible night – has clearly stood the test of time. Whether it was in 1997 or today, that sense of community, friendship, and a bit of fairytale sparkle is what makes prom so iconic. It’s not just about the dress or the date; it’s about marking a significant milestone, saying goodbye to one chapter, and excitedly looking forward to the next. So, while my prom dump is all about my recent adventures by the Oregon Coast, filled with laughter, dancing, and my amazing besties, I feel a strong connection to every senior who has ever celebrated this special milestone. From the prom-goers of 1997 to those who will attend in years to come, the spirit of prom lives on. It's more than just a dance; it's a cherished chapter in our high school story, a collection of moments that become treasured memories. What are your favorite prom memories, past or present? I'd love to hear how your prom experience compares!
