People with private TikTok accounts

I have noticed that Tik Tok has many people with Private accounts that judge others but are too scared to open their own accounts up for judgement…

Come on now, that’s just not even fair. I say open it up and let’s make it fair… or just don’t be mean.

I've often scrolled through comments sections and noticed something curious: some of the most critical or judgmental remarks seem to come from private TikTok accounts. This makes me wonder, what's the etiquette here? Is it genuinely fair to critique others so freely when your own digital door is firmly shut? On one hand, I completely understand the desire for a private life online. Most of us cherish our personal space, and social media can feel overwhelming. People choose to make their accounts private for a multitude of valid reasons: to protect their personal information, to share content only with a close circle of friends and family, to avoid unwanted attention, or simply for peace of mind. It’s a legitimate way to control your digital footprint and maintain a sense of security. And honestly, I think it's smart to be mindful of what you share and with whom. However, the ethical dilemma arises when these private profiles are used as a shield for public judgment. The original article touched on this perfectly. When someone with a locked profile aggressively criticizes public content, it creates a strange imbalance. It’s almost like shouting an opinion into a crowd while wearing an invisibility cloak. If you’re going to engage in public discourse, especially if it involves strong opinions or criticism, there’s an argument to be made for equal standing. Shouldn't we all be willing to expose our own content or views to similar scrutiny if we're dishing it out? It makes you reflect on the idea that people with private TikTok accounts should open their account before judging others... From my perspective, fostering a healthier online community means practicing accountability. If you wouldn't say something face-to-face, or if you wouldn't want your own posts subjected to the same level of harshness, then perhaps it's worth re-evaluating that comment. It's not about forcing everyone to go public – far from it. It's about being mindful of the impact our words have, regardless of our privacy settings. For those of us who have public accounts and find ourselves on the receiving end of judgment from private profiles, it can be frustrating. My advice? Don't let it get to you. Remember that sometimes the critique comes from a place of insecurity or a lack of understanding. Focus on the positive interactions and the community you do connect with. You have the power to block, mute, and report. Protecting your peace and maintaining a private life in terms of your mental well-being is paramount. Ultimately, whether your TikTok is private or public, the golden rule of online interaction should probably be the same: respect and empathy. We can all contribute to a more positive digital space by thinking twice before we type, and by recognizing the power dynamics at play when we engage from behind a private profile. It’s about striking a balance where we can enjoy social media while still protecting our personal integrity and contributing constructively.
