It feels like they're constantly "raising these prices," and it makes me wonder, 'Are they just "wrong for raising these prices" or is there a bigger picture?' Like in my original post, I'm literally only keeping it right now because I'm trying to finish all "six seasons" of my favorite show – it's a real struggle between my wallet and my watchlist! So, why does Netflix keep getting more expensive? It's a question I ask myself every time I see the bill. From what I've gathered, there are a few big reasons. First off, producing all those incredible exclusive shows and movies that keep us glued to the screen? That costs a lot of money. Think about the massive budgets for things like 'Squid Game' or 'Stranger Things.' They're not just buying old content anymore; they're creating their own, and that's a huge investment. Another factor is the intense competition in the streaming world. Every major studio and media company now has its own streaming service. This means Netflix can't just rely on licensing popular shows from other networks as much as they used to. They have to outbid competitors for new projects and talent, which drives up costs. Then there's the crackdown on password sharing. For years, many of us probably shared accounts with friends or family (guilty!). While convenient for us, it meant lost revenue for Netflix. By limiting sharing, they're trying to convert those 'borrowers' into paying subscribers, which they argue helps fund more content. Also, global expansion and improving technology (like 4K streaming and better sound) aren't cheap either. These all contribute to the overall operation expenses. Now, for the big question: Is Netflix still worth it? Evaluating whether your Netflix subscription is still worth the cost really comes down to your personal viewing habits and priorities. Here's how I try to figure it out: How often do you actually watch? Be honest with yourself. If you're only tuning in for one or two shows a month, or just to finish those "six seasons" like me, maybe it's time to re-evaluate. Is it providing enough entertainment for the new price? Are you utilizing the exclusive content? Netflix's main draw these days is its original programming. If you're mostly watching older, licensed shows that might be available elsewhere, you might find better value with a different service or even buying/renting individual seasons. Compare with alternatives. Look at what other streaming services offer for their price points. Maybe another platform has more of the specific genres or types of shows you love. Sometimes, rotating subscriptions (subscribing for a month, canceling, then subscribing to another) can be a smart strategy to "stop raising the price" on your wallet! Consider the ad-supported tier. If available in your region, the cheaper ad-supported plan might be a good compromise if you're trying to cut costs but still want access to the library. For me, right now, it's a temporary 'yes' because of that amazing TV show I'm hooked on. But once those "six seasons" are done, I'm definitely going to take a hard look at my subscription again. It's tough to justify when they "stop raising the price" for just a few hours of viewing a month. What are your thoughts? How do you decide if your Netflix is still worth it?
