Balik Kampung literally means "returning to one’s hometown," a cherished tradition deeply embedded in many cultures, especially in Malaysia and Singapore. This practice often happens during festive seasons such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali, where people travel back to their ancestral villages or hometowns to reunite with family and friends. From personal experience, the journey home is just as significant as the destination. It symbolizes a break from daily routines and an opportunity to relive fond memories. Preparing for balik kampung usually involves packing gifts, favorite foods, and sometimes traditional attire to celebrate with loved ones. The phrase "READY? SEE YOU SOON" seen in my trip’s images perfectly captures the excitement and anticipation before setting off. The sense of community during these times is palpable, with convoys of family members traveling together, sharing stories and laughter along the way. For me, balik kampung is not only about the physical journey but also about preserving heritage, feeling a strong sense of belonging, and creating lasting memories.
