Gandharat
The Gandharatha has two main meanings: the Pang Buddha for rain and the Dwaravadi Buddha found at the temple in front of the crematorium. The first meaning is the Buddha built in the Indian city of Gandharatha for rain and later rebuilt in the Rat Goin period for royal ceremonies. The second meaning is the Dwaravadi Green Stone Buddha, over 1,500 years old, which is found in the temple in front of the crematorium, Phra Si Ayutthaya province.

Buddha Pang asked for rain:
It was originally an ancient Buddha made to ask for rain, and was used in important ceremonies such as the Royal Highness and the Royal Plant Ceremony.

In the days of Ratconin, His Majesty the King of Chulalothon Maharaj produced the creation of Gandharathra in an ancient model.
Characteristics:
Buddha Pang asking for rain in ancient times often sat meditating, his right hand was in a gouge position to call for rain water, and his left hand was placed supine on the shaft.
Art form:
In the time of His Majesty, Gandharathra was built in a standing form and imitated Indian Gandharathra art.

It is believed that it was originally enshrined at the Mahaeli Temple during Ayutthaya and was summoned to the temple in front of the crematorium during the third reign.

ถ้าใครเสิร์ชคำว่า “ศิลปะทวารวดี / พระพุทธรูปสมัยทวารวดี / ทวารวดี” แล้วมาเจอชื่อ “พระคันธารราฐ” มักจะงงนิดหน่อย เพราะคำนี้ถูกใช้ “สองความหมาย” ในไทย คือ (1) พระพุทธรูปปางขอฝนที่ใช้ในพระราชพิธี และ (2) พระพุทธรูปศิลาเขียวสมัยทวารวดีที่ประดิษฐานอยู่ที่วัดหน้าพระเมรุ อยุธยา ซึ่งคนส่วนใหญ่ที่ตั้งใจไปชมงานโบราณศิลป์จะหมายถึงความหมายหลังนี่แหละ ส่วนที่ทำให้พระคันธารราฐ (องค์ศิลาเขียว) น่าสนใจมาก คือเป็นงาน “ศิลปะทวารวดี” อายุประมาณ 1,500 ปี และลักษณะท่าประทับที่พบไม่บ่อย: ประทับนั่งห้อยพระบาทบนดอกบัวบาน พอไปดูของจริงในวิหารน้อย/วิหารเขียน จะเห็นบรรยากาศแบบพระพุทธรูปที่มีคนศรัทธามาก ๆ มีเครื่องบูชา ดอกไม้ พวงมาลัย และรายละเอียดบนองค์พระที่ชวนให้ยืนดูนาน เช่นบริเวณพระหัตถ์—บางจุดมีร่องรอยการปิดทองที่ปลายนิ้วและเล็บ ซึ่งสะท้อนว่ามีคนมากราบไหว้ ปิดทองสืบต่อกันมานาน สำหรับคนที่กำลังหาความรู้เรื่อง “พระพุทธรูปสมัยทวารวดี” แบบดูให้เป็น เวลาไปชมให้ลองสังเกต 3 อย่างนี้ (ช่วยแยกจากอยุธยาหรือรัตนโกสินทร์ได้ดี): 1) ท่าประทับและสัดส่วน: งานทวารวดีมักให้ความรู้สึกเรียบ สุขุม โครงสร้างชัด ไม่เน้นลายละเอียดเครื่องทรงอลังการแบบยุคหลัง 2) วัสดุและผิวสัมผัส: องค์นี้เป็น “ศิลาเขียว” ผิวจะให้โทนและเนื้อหินเฉพาะ ต่างจากพระหล่อโลหะหรือปูนปั้นที่พบได้มากในอยุธยา 3) ร่องรอยศรัทธา: คราบ/รอยปิดทองตามจุดที่คนมักแตะหรือปิดทอง (เช่น ปลายนิ้ว) เป็นหลักฐานร่วมสมัยที่ทำให้การดูพระสนุกขึ้น เพราะเห็น “การใช้งานจริง” ของวัตถุศักดิ์สิทธิ์ในพื้นที่ หลายคนเสิร์ชยาว ๆ แนว “เนื้อศิลาแลง…ราคา” แล้วหวังเทียบชนิดพระเครื่อง/พระกรุ ตรงนี้อยากชวนโฟกัสว่า พระคันธารราฐที่วัดหน้าพระเมรุเป็นโบราณศิลปวัตถุสำคัญของชาติ ไม่ใช่หัวข้อซื้อขาย แต่ถ้าตั้งใจศึกษาเนื้อวัสดุ ให้ใช้คำค้นเชิงวิชาการจะตรงกว่า เช่น “พระพุทธรูปศิลาเขียว ทวารวดี”, “ศิลปะทวารวดี ลักษณะ”, “วัดหน้าพระเมรุ วิหารน้อย พระคันธารราฐ” จะได้ข้อมูลที่อ้างอิงได้และพาไปถึงประวัติ/รูปแบบศิลปะชัด ๆ ทริคเล็ก ๆ ตอนไปไหว้พระ: เข้าไปดูแบบค่อย ๆ เดินวนรอบองค์พระ จะเห็นทั้งพระพักตร์ พระวรกายส่วนบน และรายละเอียดมือซ้าย-ขวาชัดขึ้น (โดยเฉพาะรอยปิดทอง) แล้วค่อยถอยออกมาดู “ภาพรวมกับดอกบัวบานและเครื่องบูชา” จะได้ทั้งมุมศิลป์และมุมศรัทธาในที่เดียว
