IS MY NOSE RING TO BIG?
I'm so frustrated right now. I can't seem to get my nose ring back into my nose.
The hole is obviously there, but the nose ring won't go in. Does anyone have any tips before I officially give up? 😭 #nosering
Oh my goodness, I totally get how frustrating it is when your nose piercing just refuses to go back into your nose! I've been there, staring at the mirror, trying every angle, and feeling like my once-perfect hole has magically vanished. It's truly infuriating, especially when you know the hole is supposed to be there! From my own experience and chatting with other piercing enthusiasts, there are a few common reasons why your nose ring might not be cooperating. Sometimes, even if it's been a while, the hole can start to shrink surprisingly fast – we're talking minutes, not just days or weeks! This isn't necessarily it closing up completely, but more like the tissue tightening. Another culprit can be scar tissue internally, or even just a slight swelling that makes the opening narrower than usual. And let's be honest, sometimes it's just the angle; getting that perfect entry point can be tricky! Since you mentioned trying Vaseline and even an earring, you're already on the right track with lubrication, but here are a few more tips that have worked for me or friends: Firstly, cleanliness is key! Make sure both your hands, the piercing site, and the jewelry itself are spotless. You don't want to introduce any bacteria while you're poking around. Use a saline solution (store-bought or homemade with non-iodized salt and distilled water) to gently clean the area. This can also help reduce any minor swelling. Next, let's talk lubrication and technique. While Vaseline is a common go-to, some piercers recommend a water-based lubricant or even a tiny bit of jojoba oil. It's less likely to clog the piercing. Apply a generous amount to the tip of your jewelry and gently try to guide it in. Don't force it! If you feel resistance, try a slightly different angle. Sometimes, looking into a magnifying mirror helps you see the exact opening. I often find that gently wiggling the jewelry while applying very light pressure can help. Think of it like coaxing it in, not ramming it. I've heard of people using a warm compress before trying to reinsert. Just soak a clean cloth in warm water, wring it out, and hold it against your nostril for a few minutes. The warmth can help relax the tissue and might make it a bit more pliable. If your piercing has been out for a while, like you mentioned potentially a year in the OCR, it's possible it has shrunk considerably or even partially healed. In this situation, if you have a taper pin (a tool piercers use to gradually stretch a piercing), that could work, but honestly, this is where I'd strongly recommend seeing a professional piercer. They have sterile tools and expertise to safely re-open or taper the hole without causing damage or infection. They can usually get it back in way quicker and safer than you trying to DIY it and potentially making it worse. Also, consider the type of jewelry. Flat-backed studs or labrets can sometimes be easier to insert than hoops, especially if the hole is a bit tight. The flat back provides a good surface to push against. And trust me, don't feel bad about it! Our bodies are weird, and piercings can be temperamental. The most important thing is to be patient and gentle with yourself. If it's painful, bleeding, or if you're just not getting anywhere, please, please visit a reputable piercer. They've seen it all and can usually help out without much fuss. Better safe than sorry to avoid irritation or infection! Good luck, and I hope you get that beautiful nose ring back in soon!
