How I’m building a career in Health

I used to think the only way to have a meaningful career in healthcare was to become a doctor.

For the longest time, that was the only version of “helping people” I saw. But deep down, I was more drawn to solving problems, not just treating symptoms.

I started noticing patterns that no one talked about; patients who couldn’t explain their pain, communities who didn’t have access to clinics, people who were left behind by the system.

That’s when I found public health. And it was like… oh!! This is what I’ve been looking for.

None of this looks like the traditional path I imagined, but it feels way more ME. I get to combine tech, compassion, problem solving, and creativity, all while still working in healthcare.

Drop your major down below and I can suggest a non-traditional health career path you might love!

Or if you’re in a similar path, what project are you working on right now?? Let’s chat🫶🏻

... Read morePublic health offers a fascinating and impactful alternative to traditional healthcare careers. As individuals increasingly seek roles that combine compassion with innovation, various paths have emerged, such as public health advocacy, nutrition, clinical research, and healthcare technology. Understanding these options can inspire students and professionals alike to explore diverse opportunities in health that align with their skills and interests. The rising significance of technology in healthcare cannot be overstated. With advances in telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and health informatics, there's a vast landscape for those interested in utilizing tech to improve patient outcomes. Particularly, positions that focus on data analysis and policy-making are pivotal, addressing systemic issues in healthcare access, equity, and efficiency. Moreover, pursuing a career in public health enables you to engage in real-world problem solving rather than theoretical explorations. It represents a shift towards addressing community needs, prioritizing preventative measures, and ensuring that healthcare services reach those who need them most. This shift also emphasizes collaboration among various sectors, promoting comprehensive strategies that address the social determinants of health. If you are contemplating a non-traditional career path in healthcare, don’t hesitate to explore your interests further. Engaging in internships, networking with professionals in the field, and staying up-to-date with current public health trends can significantly enhance your journey.
