What Jobs can you get with a Public Health Degree?

When I first started studying public health, everyone around me asked the same question:

“So… are you going to be a doctor?” 😅

What most people don’t realize is that public health opens so many doors, from policy and research to tech and innovation.

Personally, I ended up going down the AI route, building digital tools to help non-verbal patients communicate their pain and emotions. I never imagined that would even count as public health, but it’s exactly what the field is about: using science and empathy to make care accessible.

💬 So if you’re studying or curious about public health, you can work in:

▫️ Health data & analytics

▫️ Global or community health

▫️ Health tech & AI

▫️ Research or epidemiology

▫️ Health communication & education

▫️ Nonprofits & policy

There’s so much more than people realize.

I’d love to know, what field are you in (or interested in)? And did you always know public health could lead there?

... Read morePublic health is a versatile and impactful field that goes far beyond the common misconception that it only prepares you for medical or clinical careers. The study of public health equips students and professionals with skills in science, data analysis, policy-making, and communication that are relevant across various industries. For instance, health data & analytics is a growing area where public health graduates can work with large datasets to identify trends, inform decision-making, and improve population health outcomes. Roles in this space include data analyst, biostatistician, and health informatics specialist. Global or community health careers involve working on health initiatives that address disparities, infectious diseases, and wellness programs at local, national, or international levels. Professionals in this sector might work with NGOs, government agencies, or international organizations like the WHO. Health tech and AI are innovative fields where public health professionals create and implement new technologies to enhance patient care and accessibility. For example, digital tools that help non-verbal patients communicate pain — blending empathy with technology — demonstrate how AI intersects with public health goals. Research and epidemiology are core to public health, involving studying disease patterns, risk factors, and health outcomes to inform prevention strategies and policy. Careers here can be in academia, governmental research bodies, or private sector research institutions. Health communication & education professionals work to inform and influence public attitudes and behaviors towards health issues. Effective communication is essential in public health campaigns, vaccination drives, and health literacy programs. Lastly, public health also prepares you for roles in nonprofits and policy-making where influencing healthcare legislation, funding, and programs directly impact population well-being. Overall, the nociceptive innervation and trigeminal pathway topics highlighted in the image point to the complexity of public health related knowledge that can be applied in specialized health research and clinical collaborations, emphasizing the rich interdisciplinary nature of the field. This blend of scientific understanding and practical application makes a public health degree a gateway to a dynamic career with numerous possibilities for making a meaningful difference in the world.
