My weird work habits
Why do I have so many weird work habits 😭😭
Like sometimes I think I’m functioning perfectly fine,
then I catch myself rewriting the same email 19 times because I don’t want to sound “too aggressive” for saying Hi.
Tell me I’m not the only one who:
• types nonsense when someone walks by
• has 72 anxiety drafts
• stares at the laptop like it’s going to type for me
• gets scared of Slack notifications
• keeps tabs open as “emotional support”
👇 Which one is the MOST you?
Drop 1–5 in the comments (I’m a solid 2 and 4).

Many of us develop unique work habits that help us cope with daily stress, yet often these habits can seem strange or counterproductive. For example, rewriting emails multiple times to soften the tone is common among professionals concerned about being perceived as too aggressive or impolite. This behavior reflects thoughtful communication but also highlights anxiety around workplace interactions. Other habits, such as typing nonsense when someone walks by or staring at a laptop as if it will type on its own, show how distractions and mental fatigue play roles in modern work environments. These actions can be ways to momentarily divert attention or combat feelings of overwhelm. The idea of 'anxiety drafts' where people save dozens of unfinished messages before sending is increasingly known among remote and office workers. This habit shows the perfectionism or fear of making mistakes, which is very real in fast-paced careers. Additionally, the fear of Slack or other messaging notifications is a common stress trigger. It can cause people to delay responses or even avoid communication temporarily, which paradoxically can increase anxiety. Keeping multiple browser tabs open as "emotional support" might seem odd, but it provides a sense of readiness and control over tasks. It can also reduce the effort to reload pages, giving a psychological comfort of having everything at hand. By sharing and acknowledging these quirky work habits, professionals can realize they are not alone in their experiences. Embracing these behaviors while finding constructive ways to manage stress can create a healthier work routine. It's helpful to join communities or forums where such habits are discussed openly, fostering connection and mutual support in the workplace.
